it's kind of odd how my attitude towards food has changed so quickly. hard to explain, but i REALLY appreciate when i get to eat something that actually tastes good now, versus before when i could just eat anything, regardless of whether or not it was healthy. i haven't had any soda or anything really "unhealthy" for nearly a week now (except for maybe some gluten free chips ). it's kind of cool really knowing what it is that you're putting into your body, and i'm anxious to see the effects 2 or 3 weeks down the road. i'm probably considerably malnourished right now due to the damaged cylia in my small intestine not being able to take in nutrients and vitamins. just sucks going to my softball games and not being able to have a beer or two after the game, or a burger filled up with raw onions. although i was a happy camper when i found a big ol' garden salad (with grilled chicken) on the menu when i went out to eat with my pals for lunch and dinner saturday during a softball tourney (one full day of eating salad ).right now i'm off to eat the rest of my szechwan noodles skillet meal (from the gluten free pantry) w/ beef tips and brown rice (it actually tastes REALLY good, and spicy ).

Awww, man, sorry you had that crap!
![]() My advice (not that you asked! ) would be to stick with whole foods - these "gluten free" pre-fab snack things are trying to cash in on a trend. Do you like nuts? (I thought so! ) Seriously, though, almonds, peanuts, cashews, "trail mix" - just get the ingredients and mix stuff together yourself (or have the wifey do it for you! ). Buying in bulk wouldn't be so bad costwise. And look into a wheat-free beer so you can enjoy with your buds after a softball game - I saw some sorghum beer at our local grocery just this week. Why no burger with onions - is it just the bun, or are onions off-limits, too? If it's just the bun, it's easy enough to ask a restaurant to hold it - I mean with the "South Beach" craze it's probably almost normal! ![]() Good luck, man.

Aww man, get away from the pre-packaged processed crap. Eat some real food. Like bacon and eggs for breakfast. Any kind of unprocessed meat, fish, or poultry along with just about any kind of vegetable for lunch and dinner. Nuts are great for snacks. Fruit also if so inclined. Dairy products should be good to go; so things like cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, and even ice cream could be on the menu. You just have to avoid most grain based products.

Yah, I gotta go with what Arkie and Kathy said. Eat real food!
![]() As you know Im making diet changes too and what I've found is that I've been able to make some pretty shocking ones (for me) that have really turned out to be fine. Biggest for me is eating a TON more fruit. I basically never ate any, and now Im doing 3 or 4 apples/oranges (total) a day. In fact, Im a bit addicted to oranges now. I don't know if you like to cook, but dude, fresh veggies and some lean meats can be ooooh so yummy and easily prepared over a hot skillet. |

leave the processed foods behind. you won't be sorry. you have more immediate incentive than most of us, but now that you've had to rethink the way you eat, and carefully consider everything you put in your body, you can also learn to appreciate food in a different way. who gives a damn about gluten, there's plenty of non-gluten, and non-processed food out there that you can enjoy at least as much as anything you ate before. and you won't have the bad effects that we all learn to ignore when we eat crappy food. it's not a matter of convincing yourself that it tastes good either. like arkie said, who can argue with a breakfast of eggs and (nitrate-free) bacon. non-processed meat tastes good. fresh fruits and vegetables... take some time to find the good stuff and eat food in the form the good lord offered it to you, rather than having it taken apart and put back together. good food isn't hard to enjoy. what's that saying? if it's not an ingredient, or a form of food, your grandmother would have recognized, don't eat it. or something like that. |

Oh, and dipps - if you go the "whole, real foods" way, cutting out preservatives and whatnot, you'll DEFINITELY feel a difference in as little as 2 - 3 weeks. Keep us posted.

![]() agreed on the fruit thing. i've always been big on fruit though, especially apples and oranges, and, when in season, tangerines (my fav, alongside watermelon, but hard to find good ones though). nice crisp pears are good also (have a fridge stocked full of them at the moment). not a huge fan of bananas, but i'll eat them anyway (cuz if I don't, there's usually 2 or 3 that wind up going brown). and yeah, des, usually when i wind up working from home, i wind up eating same canned veggies, some rice, and some meat for my lunch. not sure what kind of meat i have available today though, so might me a salad for lunch again today. ![]() what's gonna suck tomorrow is that i have to travel to our manufacturing facility for work, and as part of that trip, i ALWAYS get chinese food for lunch (LOVE it). that won't be happening tomorrow. looks like i'll be going to pizza hut for their all u can eat salad buffet. better make sure i stop at the store for some gluten free dressing before i go..... all i need is a side holster to carry my own dressing in as i walk into pizza hut.

anybody wanna guess how gluten free cereal tastes?
it's even choco rice krispy flavored (dumping it into my bowl, it looks like it could easily survive a nuclear holocaust). yah, yah, i know, i've been paying attention to all the comments posted above, but the cereal was bought BEFORE all this discussion (by my loving wife, in an attempt to help me out), but the stuff has to get eaten up. i hate wasting food. but dang....... what a nasty bleepin' aftertaste. ![]() turkey bacon? i wouldn't rule that out. i already do ground turkey meat for tacos and turkey brats (italian ).

I wasn't really sure what gluten was, so I stayed clear of this thread. But with not much going on in the forum, I googled it, and found out that eating bread has turned me, and every man who's ever eaten bread, gay. It's made from proteins found in endosperm. I'm now also going to attempt to live a gluten-free life. Someone should make a Lifetime movie about this.

Chinese food shouldn't be a problem, dipps. Maybe stay away from the rice and eat the other stuff. Right?
