Music: By Todd S

Hey Gang,

So I recently got a small home studio, using ProTools and the like. I hope to complete an acoustic album over the next many months, and share it with y'all.

In the meantime, though, I've come across some older recordings I did with my old band (I'm the singer/guitarist and the songwriter) -- 8 Minute Morning.

So I thought, why not share these with the FZ1OA? So every now and again, I'll post up some tunes to my mac.com folder, and do a little write-up explaining each song. Feel free to download away!

http://public.me.com/tstephany

The first 3 songs are my favorites off of our first 2 EPs:

1) Sad to See You Let Go
I wrote this song after getting laid off from the same job -- for a 2nd time. Considering the tough economic times we're in currently, it seems to resonate once again.

2) Top of the Food Chain
I was on the front porch of my family cottage in North Ontario, tinkering around with putting together the many parts of this kind of space-rock song. This one's hard to describe, lyrically...but it starts with the imagery of a man lying on my death bed -- dying -- and the thought of his true love is the only thing that keeps him confident as he passes from this world into the next. But once he gets ot the other side, he finds he's not the top of the food chain, any longer. I'm still very proud of this song.

3) Dream of Steak
This more aggressive tune came to me after reading "Education of a Felon" by Edward Bunker, who played Mr. Blue in Reservoir Dogs. He did this crazy write-up about spending time in "the hole" in prison, and the things that go through your head while in there. And that inspired this song.

I hope y'all enjoy! I'll post more as I get around to it. And eventually, I look forward to putting up the new acoustic album.

What fun is it, if you can't share it?

Wow, Todd! You've really got talent! Your guitar work on Sad To See You Let Go was fabulous! And Dream of Steak really rocks! Sure wish I had musical talent like that.

I'm looking forward to more!

[Sorry for all the exclaimation points, but I was really impressed!!]

hey Todd, any chance you can publish one on an Iweb page, or a movie page, so I can have a listen, without having to download a file?

That's a good idea. This weekend is jam-packed booked, but maybe I can get around to it soon.

To the rest of you, thanks for the compliments! More tunes coming soon...

Mo' music!

3 more tunes from the first two EPs by 8 Minute morning are downloadable on the site. (By the way -- DD, I don't think I have the ability to do streaming music via iWeb...) I left the old tunes up that are listed above, but have added a few others.

Again, the URL: http://public.me.com/tstephany

So here are the new tunes:

1) Bringing Me Backwards
I haven't personally dealt with cocaine addiction, but I got a front-row seat to see it happen to a close friend. I wrote this tune from his perspective.

2) Know the Song
This song is about being the friend with benefits...but when you actually have feelings for the other person.

3) The Game
This song didn't actually make the EP, because we thought it was a bit too similar to "Know the Song." It's about the games played in a relationship, when there's uncertainly about what the underlying emotions might be.

I worked all morning on trying to get 12 songs from our last album at better volume, but ended up just compressing them too much. So I'm going to tinker with them a bit more before posting. But I think that last album has our best work on it. So stay tuned for those tunes!

How does one cope with cocaine addition?
When I finally grew up, I employed cocaine subtraction.
Works for me! ;)

Hmmm -- I think I grabbed that one out of my iTunes (it's the standard iTunes compression format). I'll see if I can convert it to mp3.

I got an mp3 version of "Know the Song" loaded and put up. So you should be all good, now!

And thanks for the compliments, everybody... More music coming soon!
