FZ1 "THE SPORTBIKE FOR GEEZERS" ?

I have heard that the FZ1 is the sportbike for geezers. Do you think this is generally true. It seems that the average age of the FZ1 rider is 62 years old according to the marketing statistics on the bike. Do you think Yamaha is really trying to appeal to senior citizens with this bike or are their a few under 50 year old riders that like it's upright riding postion. Often times men over 60 experience a second childhood and you will see them driving a red corvette or mustang with their sport cap on. Do you think the FZ1 has the same appeal and the seniors feel they are riding a sport bike when they own an FZ1 because they can't ride a real sportbike like a Suzuki GSXR or Yamaha R1? Kind of a last Hurrah?

Sucks to hear that for us "younger" riders.

"Can't" isn't the right word to use, IMHO. More like "won't". Limited ergonomics comes to mind...

Free Time Shit Starter....He's always been like that. He's just trying to get you fired up.
My name is GEEZER, although I'm not 62, I do have a Vette, and an FZ1, and a ballcap. Second childhood? I never left my first.

How silly is this thread? I guess I'm a 63 yr. old geezer when I ride the FZ1. But not when I ride my 998S Bayliss?

I had one (sold it a couple months ago) and loved it and will get another...oh yeah im only 28yrs old. basicaly i didnt feel that giving up a few HP over an R1 for a too tight riding position for me was worth it.

There's two types of old.
Years old, and milage old.
Ask anybody that's ever bought a used car, which is worse?
I'll ride as long as I'm able.

there's two types of stupid.
there's stupid, and then there's really stupid.
No need to ask around to see what we're dealing with here.

I bought my FZ when I was 25... It is the best of all worlds of motorcycling... after doing the research, I realized that... perhaps SOME people aren't ready to come around to that decision until later in life when they are generally a bit wiser... I guess us younger folks with FZ's are just ahead of the learning curve...

well said...

Buying a sport bike with sensible ergos is a choice. That choice also depends on what you want to do with the motorcycle you choose to own. For me, it made no sense at all to be uncomfortable 90 percent of the time for less than 10 percent of the street riding I was doing on my ZX-9 or 954 RR. It has nothing to do with riding a "real" sportbike or not. It has everything to do with choosing the right tool for the job.

Hell, I've seen one particular "older" guy easily go around younger guys on "real sportbikes" with his tupperware Honda PC800 in the twisties of North Georgia. Now THAT puts things into perspective. I would say it doesn't matter as much what you ride but who the rider IS.

This douche just comes in and stirs the pot...he's probably 16 and his mommy won't let him buy a scooter yet, so sits home and bothers us.

Also, he's clearly talking about the Gen 1 as being a geezer bike...LOL.

JUST KIDDING guys...

25 year old FZ1 rider checking in. As a salesman I will agree that the FZ1/Bandit standard motorcycles appeal to a certain type of people without a doubt. Generally they have plenty of money to buy whatever bike they want, they just don\'t want to give the dealer any of it! They are super particular and super picky, maybe even pretty dorky in some cases. I would generally say they are right at 40 years of age. +/- 5 in either direction. The really old guys stick to the Goldwings ;) The youngin\'s stick to the super sports to fullfill their need to conform. They have NO CLUE that there are other options out there...
