I'm certainly not trying to put down the xsi. It has (and will) served me well. Definitely, a lot of bang for the buck!

I'm still quite happy with my XSi. I was really into upgrade mode a few months ago, but I managed to ride that out without a purchase and I'm back to being happy with what I've got.

The only thing I really feel limited by on the XSi is low light stuff. It just doesn't have high ISO performance. Other than that, it has been great for me.

and that's what drove me to an upgrade. trying to take indoor action photos (gymnasium bball games, volleyball, etc) with the xsi just wasn't cutting the mustard.

Nice!

Speaking of "Kapow" and the birth of high speed photography,
do you know what this eerie image depicts?

Yup!

"Rope tricks" are seen in this image of a nuclear explosion taken less than one millisecond after detonation. During operation Tumbler-Snapper in 1952, this nuclear test device was suspended 300 feet above the Nevada desert floor, and anchored by mooring cables. As the ball of plasma expanded, the radiating energy superheated and vaporized the cables just ahead of the fireball, resulting in the "spike" effects. (U.S. Department of Defense)

Here is another pic of a nuclear plasma ball forming / expanding, taken elsewhere.
Prolly dropped by aircraft over some pacific atoll.

Speaking of milliseonds, the balloon photo is the flash firing about 2 milliseconds after the sound of the pop hit the microphone a few inches away.

I haven't been able to figure that out. All of the balloon photos have them.

Some light or other in the room? Reflected on the balloon before it pops.

Cool pic Ed. Interesting that the two red dots are lined up vertically. Could it be the pressure or sound waves are causing refraction?

Naw, I think it's just LEDs reflected in the balloon.

The shutter is open for six seconds in these shots. There is a lot of electronic equipment in the room.

This misfire confirms it. You can see a blue LED and a red one. I had added an air filter to the room because I had, um, tried corn starch in uh, a balloon and it was a bit dusty.

Here the flash went off too soon.
