Wow ......... I used the FZ1oa picture uploader, on an already resized (800 max. width) photo. It sure 'weirded-out' what was at least a half-decent image.
![]() I'll try attaching the file, and see if it improves. IMG_4942(web).jpg well ........ that's a bit better, I suppose. I don't think I'll use the board 'uploader' anymore !

Nice sharp focus on the twig! Hey, wait a minute, it looks like there may be a bird in the background, too. ;)
Just messing with you. Good shot, that's a pretty bird. |

![]() no, that's not what i was implying at all. everything i've ever read about that lens (and most pics i've seen), there's nothing ever good to say about it. i really liked that pic, thought it was pretty good, which SHOULD be a compliment to the guy taking the pic, "handicapped" by that lens.

Elbarto's shot was very nice.
Dipps, I was just rousting your mildly stated opinion about a lens that should have never made it to market.

Ryan. I really like both photos. I love the high shutter speed and fast action of the first and the serenity of the long exposure seen on the second one. Terrific work.
They both make me want to head to the beach! |

Setting exposure question. I bought Dipps' book on Exposure.
The guy in there on more than one occasion determines his exposure with an f and shutter speed then changes them to the f stop he wants and corresponding speed. For example, in one night shot he's using a f2.8 lens. He takes his reading at f2.8 and gets a speed of 1/8 sec. He then stops down to f/16 (5 stops) and slows the shutter down 5 stops to 4 seconds. Why not just take the reading at f/16 and call it a day? |

Well, the moon was ENORMOUS tonight, so I took another attempt at it using the 75-300mm @ F8 1/200th. This one has a significant amount of post-production, mostly just white balance and sharpening.
I think it came out okay minus the "halo" of over-sharpening

i have my eyes set on a new lens. in the process of developing a gameplan to achieve my goal. if i can sell a couple things, i'll be almost half way there. ![]() off the top of my head, my guess to answering your question is that w/ a more wide open aperture, it's easier to take exposure readings at night, and once you know proper exposure at a set aperture/ss, it's just a matter of slowing the ss down the same number of clicks that you opened up the aperture. i'm not certain that's the answer, just thinking it through out loud. you can read more about it under "metering tricks" here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/night.htm

Yep, bought the lens. I'm done for a while...at least until I can talk the wifey into buying me a new body for BDay/Christmas. I've got what I need for most of the shooting I've been doing. |

Beautiful pics, guys! Love the clarity of that Moon shot, el barto.
This is something different. I apologise for the poor quality of the photo itself (cell phone copy to facebook), but I think you'll still grasp the depth of this work. It's the latest hand drawn art my daughter has finished and I'm always proud to show it to those here who can appreciate the thought and time that went into it. This was a project done for her first college art class. ![]() R

Wow, Repairman, your daughter has serious talent. All of it is fantastic, but the dog especially looks like he's coming out of the page!
