Exclamation Motocross on the Freeway!

Had an unbelievable near miss on the freeway this morning. I was traveling south on the 5 getting on to the 110 south. It's a 2 lane off/on ramp with some left/right curves going uphill right before you get onto the 110 and it has no shoulders, just concrete barriers on either side. I was getting impatient with the 2 cars in front of me and when I saw a gap, I shot through it.

As you might be able to guess, I target fixated on the concrete wall of the next curve. Sure enough, I hit the wall, but thankfully, nowhere near head on. I felt my boot and footpeg hit the wall and the bike started to wobble, then the tires gripped the wall! I couldn't believe it as the bike started to go up! I don't think I realized what was really going on until I wondered why the pavement looked like it was so far below me, then a second later, I landed. There was no shake, wobble, or anything as I touched down, I just leaned the bike as the road curved to the right again, shook my head, and continued down the highway! (I went WFO trying to get away from the 2 people behind me who either thought I was a complete moron that they almost ran over or that I had some amazing skillz on a streetbike.)

The closer I got to work, the more reality set in, and when I got off the bike, I was just about shaking like a leaf. I looked the bike over and then took these pics when I got home.

Holy Crap Mike!

Good reflexes mixed with a bunch of good luck, is my opinion!
I am SO glad you are okay!
The battle scars in the bike are cool

Much more luck than reflexes. I target fixated, froze, and once I realized I was going to touch the wall I didn't do anything, I just rode it out. I expected to crash and maybe get hit by the cars behind me...

Wow! I'm not going to say "mad skills", I'm just glad you were experienced enough to make it through that one! I will say "mad skid marks" 'cause I know you put at least one in your drawers...hell, I did just reading it.

Good save ! Scary indeed. I guess your front wheel caught the cement divider and rode up on it a bit. ? Corner speed too much or you did not see / expect the tire to clip the edge ?

Also, since you were going into a curve with oncoming cars approaching behind you, were they far enough for you to approach the curve safely, or did you take a chance ?

Like Barb asked, what corner speed were you carrying ?

Glad you're ok though.

All I can say is you need to take your Fizzy to sturgous and ride the wall of death. You would put thous Harley guys to shame. Good save by the way. It's amazing what we get away with sometimes.
