Renee Olstead....................have mercy.
I've loved that song ever since I heard Janis sing it. I had no idea it was from "Porgy and Bess", until my aunt heard me listening to it and told me. What a great song.

I still say we need to have an FZ1OA gathering at the N.O. Jazz Fest this year. It'll be here before you know it.

I've tried it out the last couple of years with no real response. Thought it might go over better in here.

Sounds like a blast, but with trying to go to the WCG this year, I'd be out. Maybe next year? What are the details? I'd love to bring Anna down on the back of the FJR behind Mike.

It's not just jazz. Looks like the headliners aren't set yet. Of course some of the best things to see, and hear, are the lesser knowns on some of the smaller stages. These guys were one of my favorites a few years ago. Hendrix on trombones, among other things. Who'd thunk it? http://bonerama.net/ ![]() And then there's the food: ![]() ![]()

Zydeco hit bigtime, for an instant. I reposted this, because even though it`s just a music video from a cheesy Chevy Chase movie, it really does give me that zydeco feeling. Screw it.

Man, that hit me where I live! Now I've gots to have me some "Gatemouth".
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. If you never heard him you missed something. I saw him at least 10 times. Everytime I got the chance. He was living in New Orleans when Katrina hit, already sick, he just couldn't make it after that. RIP

That food looks so divine my arteries clogged just looking at the pictures.
About 17 years ago I saw a string ensemble do Hendrix on a late night music show paid for by Michelob or Miller. It was called Michelob After Dark, something like that. It was outstanding, but I never could find it again. Another quirky group is The Balenescu Quartet. They have a whole CD take off of Kraftwerk. What I'm looking for by them isn't on youtube. Here is the amazon link if anyone is interested. http://www.amazon.com/Possessed-Bala...9672433&sr=8-1

Could be, it's been a long time. I'll have to look up some other stuff by them and check it out! Thanks!

Snooks Eaglin is another treasure, and at 71 or so is still cooking in an original but unmistakably NO style. He`s worth a trip to jazzfest all by himself. Tab Benoit is a Louisiana up and comer, but i couldn`t find anything postable on Utube. Should be at jazzfest, for sure. While I was looking, found this nice Ronnie Earl, which has zip to do with NO, except for the debt that all american music owes that place. |

Damn I will be off for the 1st week of jazzfest, but not the 2nd week which is usually the better. I love going to the jazz fest, hey lowtone, I saw String Cheese Incident there, they were awesome. Anybody who hasnt heard of them should check them out.

I'm bound to have seen Snooks Eaglin at some point. Don't see how I could have avoided it, but I don't remember for sure. It was a cloudy time. Tab Benoit plays in town fairly often but so far I haven't gone to see him. He's on the list though.
