Awesome looking bike, especially for the age.
Great that it more or less fired right up. My bet, the old tires will hold up to a sustained high speed run to ..., say..., Oregon...? No airport wait time would be required!

Des... If the petcock was that nasty you can imagine what the inside of those carbs. look like. Especially if the previous owner did not drain the carburetor bowls. My guess is your fuel leak might be related to one or more stuck floats. I know you don't want to hear this but there is a good chance those carbs. need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned.

Nope, not tires. Those got replaced along the line. Problem remained.
As to the leak, it was not coming from the carbs. Im 99% sure it was the fuel line. I ain't taking those carbs off unless I find a REALLY good reason to do it!! ![]() Carburetor means "Don't **** with me" in Greek you know. |

What ever happened to Supertrapp? They were da bomb in the '80s. I have a pair of slip-ons on my FJ1100. I like the tunable discs, and they had a nice deep sound. Seems only for cruisers now.

Kerker bought them out years ago. In checking the website, they don't even
have pipes for sportbikes anymore. The Kerker line covers that...and they have very very few. |

I had Trapp's on my Suzuki, and my Ducati. I have some discs somewhere, if you need them Desmo.
Good to see the real Des feeling the heritage.

![]() You said it idled fine though right? I wouldn't dive in just yet, wait until you can take it for a spin and see how it behaves.

Didn't have a chance to mess with it tonight. Had to go deal with a bunch of Fz1 'tards instead.

Sunovabitch!!! I shoulda waited... then Yamaha would have taken care of the snatch, and made it more like the Gen1, carbs, touring ability, and all.

Went out and fired it up again just now. No fuel leak anywhere.... Hmm... intersesting.
Constant, but light smoke, coming out that tailpipe. Revved it a few times and no change. Seemed to be idling just a tad off though. Grabbed my helmet and rode it into the parking lot across the street. It's having some very slight bogging issues off the line, and then as the revs increase it cleans out and ROCKS!!!!!!!! Brought it home and the smoke out of the pipe is gone. God damned, I forgot how fast this thing was. Ok, so it's only making 108 at the rear wheel (I had it dynoed years ago) but it's only 445 pounds. Naturally compared to the FJR it feels like a scooter. ![]() The story continues........ |
