No "breakfast beer" on that list?

What's the ABV of the "Lets Go Giants" selection?

Took a road trip this weekend to see the Dog Fish Head brewery in Milton, DE and the original DFH Alehouse in Rehoboth Beach. Anna and I were traveling with our friends Katherine and Michael. (Michael is being treated for cancer, and is currently on a huge cycle of steroids.) Some pictures from the trip (all crappy iPhone pics, sorry)...

Dinner on Friday at "the mother ship," the original DFH Alehouse. That's the "tree house" that Sam (the founder/owner) built out of scrap metal.

We had a great time. The selections on tap that night:

I had two new DFH brews I hadn't tried before. "My Antonia," a continuously hopped pilsner, and "Burton Baton," a mix of a strong English ale and DFH 90-Minute IPA. I liked both a lot; the pilsner was a nice, crisp surprise, given DFH usually does ales.

My selection for dinner (seafood gumbo).

Later in the evening, Anna went for a chocolate/peanut butter martini made with vodka that is made upstairs in the alehouse. Even looking at that drink makes me head hurt, but she seemed to like it.

The brewery tours showed as "sold out" (they are free, but they issue tickets), so we were bummed. We decided to go to the brewery anyway on Saturday, just to have a look and take advantage of the deals on beer there.

Outside the brewery.

As soon as we walked in, the tour guide dude said that if we came all the way from Virginia, of course we could go on a tour.

On the tour.

In the lobby after the tour.

We'd been talking about making it to Milton to see the brewery for quite a while, so it's great we finally made it. I didn't really have time to take three days away, but I'm so glad I did. Good times with good friends are what the real point is anyway, right?

I haven't been properly dried out for days. I don't even know where to begin the alcohol count. I'm going to gloss over the finest Bloody Marys I've ever had at the Water Club at the Borgata in Atlantic City. I'll note at a glance the Magic Hat 9 which was so good, when I ordered it, the bartender had to come out from behind the bar to find out who kept ordering the good beers and shake my hand. (Thanks to Kathy for the Magic Hat introduction!) I had so many Hoegaarden on tap at the casino it's a miracle I found my way to my room.

But the REAL fun moment...the moment when my NY counterpart sealed his fate as a total hoser...was at Sparks Steak House in NYC. Sparks, where Gotti got his promotion, where I had a $45 sirloin, where the old boys in suits moved the world. Sparks, were you are standing in front of a bar where you can get some of the finest wines, most expensive scotch, he turned to my director and ask for....a Michelob Ultra.

Surprisingly enough they don't stock that, so he got a Coors Lite instead.

Pogden, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you! Once the work stuff started rolling it is hard to extricate from it.

You can register for the tour online ahead of time. Just as a heads up to anyone who wants to go in the future. That way you wont be turned away, or show up on a day like Monday when there is no tour.

And the Rehobeth location closes at 10PM just in case you happen to be in that area and decide to swing by but don't get there until 9:55PM like someone did.

Wish I could've made it down there Tina. Tell your bosses you need to visit Philadelphia next time

Don That is sort of odd though. Wonder why it closes so early?

Yes, online is where it was showing as "sold out." I checked several days before we left, and then several times in between, but it always showed as sold out. It didn't occur to me to start checking weeks before we went.

You could always use it to cleanse the palate between good beers

Ain't it the truth. Poor sap is a victim of his own palate.

Glad you had a good trip, though!

It might be a premptive action to avoid ever being labelled a nuisance establishment. On the bright side, the motorcycle spot parking meter didn't want any money from me due to the hour.
And I got to take off my riding boots and socks and soak my dogs in the Atlantic.

I feel somewhat vindicated, as I rode into town yesterday and didn't have any meter malfunctions this time.

You're probably right about the nuisance thing. Never really been to the Del coast. Is it in more of a residential spot?
