It's a little late in the season, but I really enjoyed my Anchor Christmas Ale. It was dark and nicely flavored with pine and maybe cardamom or something? But subtly and yummily so - not at all overpowering.

Man, I thought of this statement yesterday when The Stain and I hit a new local brew pub, called Engine 15 out at the beaches.

They have a really nice Chocolate Stout on tap called Southern Tier. 10% ABV, but you don't taste it at all. Very VERY yummy. Wish you could've joined us. I had three, along with a new IPA from Tampa (I assume), called Cigar City Jai Alai IPA.

The rest of the evening is a blur, but I can tell by the way I feel now that we had fun. Cheryl confirms this.

You are probably related. Like me and anyone else from Oklahoma.

We just rode 6 or so hours via Amtrak to Glenwood Springs, staying at the Hotel Denver (got a room upgrade!) and went to the brew pub for one of each. After which we had a pint of porter (Mike) and nut brown ale (me).

We are now back in our room watching Star Wars episode, for the billionth time, I with a tremendously nice buzz going on. Mike is hungry again, should have gotten the 16 oz steak, not the 10 I guess.

I picked up a couple La Chouffe, a Chimay (blue label) and a six of Anchor Steam beer last night.

I know I have tasted something like the La Chouffe before,

Anchor Steam is really nice.

I've never had the Chimay before, I know most of you have and like it so I'm looking forward to it.

I have a beer geek resident with me this week. It's nice to talk about something I enjoy at work, besides work.

If anyone is in the Southern PA area I highly recommend checking out Roy Pitz Brewery in Chambersburg, PA. I'm sure I've mentioned them before but I picked up another growler of their Imperial IPA (Daddy Fat Sacks) over the weekend and I have to say this is an amazing beer. It is definitely in my top 5 picks. Daddy Fat Sacks doesn't have the sharp bitterness most IPA's have but still has a good strong hop taste.

I just checked out the brewery, they have some interesting stuff. I'll definitely look for it next time I'm out.
Thanks

Yesterday we went toodling along in the mountains. I think I've finally convinced Mike if we can find a mountain home fixer upper he can be a kept man.

We stopped at Wild Mountain Smokehouse and Brewery for the first time, despite having ridden through Nederland a billion times. We usually stop at Black Forest to see the crazy old Germans. They have 3-4 beers of their own and a lot of others on hand, including Russian River.

http://www.wildmountainsb.com/ourbrews.html

Props, we decided to split a stout and they actually brought it to us in two short glasses.

A lot of skiers from Eldora in for a bite. We got a table right away but service was slow. That was okay, we weren't in a hurry and people watching in Ned is good.

Downside, we both got the BBQ, me a beef sandwich and Mike the beef brisket platter. Both came out with about four or five small slices of very dry beef, and it was somehow a little gamey. It took all the sauce they gave me to choke it down, and the sauce was pretty runny and so not that good.

It was too bad, because the beer was a quite respectable typical oatmeal stout I wouldn't mind picking up a growler of on our summer rides, but I decided I didn't like the food enough to stop there for lunch to bother with it.

Our roads aren't quite ready to ride on yet, though we saw a fair about of folks going for them away.

It is highly likely that the co-brewer there, Jesse Rotz is a grandson of my Dad's cousin. As my Dad was born and raised in Chambersburg. My now departed Aunt and Uncle lived in Greencastle, and Green Village before that.

That's cool. Both Jesse and Ryan are nice guys and seem to be doing really well. Not long ago they would only have about 3-4 beers on tap and last time I was there it was about 10. They are also working towards getting a bottle assembly line in place. Right now you can only buy in growlers or keg sizes. Also they are soon to purchase another section of the building they are in to set up as a mini bar area where you can come and have a pint which will be really cool. I am thinking I may start volunteering in there to help out, learn more, and maybe get some free beer.

<<< Amateur beer drinker. Had these last month, loved 'em. Still working on that proper pour. Dark Dark Dark. I can't tell you what either of them tasted like, I can just say I liked both of them.

For an amateur you're off to a great start. Old Rasputin is one of my favorite stouts, and I've never had anything from Stone that's I didn't love.
