Gen 1 vs 2 Gen

Newbie here! Brand new member. What FZ1 years are considered Gen 1 and which are Gen 2? I have a 03. Thanks!

At least you got the one that isn't designed to suck.

The Gen1 was too close to the FJR in comfort, so the Gen2 was designed to be uncomfortable... in order to cause higher FJR sales.

Next you should ask about oil, tires, and chain lube. Then bring up trail braking. And if that doesn't do it, consider the merits of 9 vs 45.

Nah, just joshing you Corrr. Around here there's an ongoing debate over which Gen is better. Of course that's obvious, but people still debate it.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy your time here and on your bike. There is much to learn and a lot of great folks here.

Oh yeah - post up some pics.

The reason you were told to go search is because just about every question about the FZ1 has been asked and answered many, MANY times. Search, read, learn.

Take it easy spanky, I WAS being nice. I've had half a dozen posts telling me the same...did not get butt-hurt over it, and did not see you scalding other members in my my defense either.

Anyway, Gen 1 and Gen 2 are different bikes. They each have thier pros and cons. From what I understand, Gen 1 is more sport-Touring, Gen 2 is more Sport-touring. Gen 1 gets better mpg and better 2up, Gen 2 more sport, less mpg and 2up.

Nothing new under the sun with everyone having their opinion about model years. Member T84A answered my question which was great. I am not in search mode to buy....I already have an 03 and didn't know what Gen it fell under. Now I know. I guess my title of the thread sparked the debate (versus). Rookie mistake.

We're always looking for an excuse to take a thread off-topic, don't take it personally!
