larger front sprocket

OK , question #2 for today...Like to hear from someone who has gone to a larger front sprocket .
Does this drop the cruising rpm a noticeable amount , and does it kill bottom end acceleration ?

Also ,thought I read here on the forum that a Gen 2 stock front sprocket would be one tooth larger , and would be quieter than aftermarket as it is cushioned .
True?
Can't find the post now.

Would this be a direct swap ?

Anybody know the factory sizes for a Gen 1 ?

I am running the 17 tooth gen 2 sprocket. It does lower the rpm and noise at cruising speed on the highway. I rejetted mine, so I don't have issues pulling away from a stop. Slipping the clutch isn't necessary and acceleration is great. You just open the throttle a little more if you want more. More mpg is a plus too. The chain guide in front of the sprocket needs to be trimmed by about 1/16th inch to clear the chain. No big deal. Also the speedo will be correct!

i think a 16 tooth is factory i put a 17 tooth on mine and a 43 tooth on the rear and it made my speedo read right and made crusing on the highway alot nicer it went from 70mph @ 5500 down to running actully 70 mph @4500 rpm as for the the swap its pretty strait up at least it was on mine as far as the bottom end just down shift a gear or two and roll it on

17 tooth sprocket/43 rear

Hi,
Your speedo/tach ratio stays the same as the speedo is driven of the output-shaft. I run 17/43 tooth ratio and the speedo and tach read the same as with 16/44 but the bike is physically traveling faster. Original gearing when speedo showed 65mph i was traveling 62mph(GPS), now at shown65 mph I'm
actually going 67.8mph(GPS). May not sound like a big difference, but it is and I will use this ratio from now on. Get 45-50 mpg, ride conservatively as I'm 65 ,shortshift alot & ride mostly the open road. No problem launching bike & it makes for a long first gear. Holeshot muff, jetting &spark advancer, great combo!
Have a good day, Tom
