2 years ago my wife announced she was going to get a scooter. She had never rode, so I initially hoped this "fad" would die. When it bacame clear she was not backing down, I helped her w/ the search and found a Kymco People 150-great little machine. Riding with her, me on my FZ1 proved to be an imbalance. Finally, I had an excuse to buy my own scoot...a Honda Reflex and absolutely love it. Surprisingly, I take it out as much as the FZ1. Like any low powered bike it teaches you to maintain momentum through corners. Handling is supreme, as most any light bike with sticky tires are. If anyone has a problem with me and my scooter it surely stems from their undersized genitals and subsequent need to question theirs and others machismo.

I've been noticing how useful they are for getting around the HUGE grounds of Road America, while there last weekend for the AMA Superbike races, and having friends with them at track days. Running to the biffy, hauling a buddy somewhere on the other end of the track, for food, etc...

Now I've been thinking about picking one up. Possibly a Yamaha Sums 50.
I see there is a 50F model this year. A 4 stroke, fuel injected example, vs the standard 2 stroke, carburetor version.
The best part? 132 mpg!!

Now I have a new infatuation!
This is almost certainly counter to what you had in mind - that being a cheap set of wheels for errands. But a Can Am still seems like a good thing. It is not a motorcycle - it does not lean - it does not have any kind of handling similar to a motorcycle. But it has the open air stuff and simplicity - versus a car or truck. It does have a cool factor, too. But it does cost a bunch. ------ That most likely is the killer.
But they still seem like good things for what they are - sort of bikes - that never tip over - that steer like a car....

I looked up the reviews on the new Yamaha's. The small four stroke seems to be a bit underpowered. From what I have gathered the two stroke is the way to go.

I love the vino for its classic design but I also love the massive storage that the zuma has under the seat.

I saw a beautiful vespa at the fitness center the other day, my daughter loves those. The problem with the vespa is the cost, every time I look at one I think about how I could buy a "a really nice proper bike" with that much coin.

I just love everything with two wheels, I also gravitate to the smaller bikes. I have been riding my 81 Suzuki GS250T to work as much as possible this year and am loving it.

The Suzuki TU250 and the new Honda 250R are both awesome IMO. The TU is getting a cult like following, even the ADV board has a huge owners group. If Suzuki would come out with a TU450 I would be the first one in line. I just love that 70's classic design.
