Removing rock guards from forks

I have a very slight fork oil leak in the right fork. I bought one of the "SEAL MATE" fork seal cleaners and the rock guard blocks doing a full revolution around the seal.

Has anyone here removed the rock guards from the forks?

They just pop off. They grip a lip on the lower fork tube. You might consider using a rounded off small screwdriver to slip that portion over the lip and then slide it up and out of the way

I took mine off to install the Holeshot fork brace. No problems yet.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I could have phrased my question better.

I just want to just slide them up out of the way, without damaging them, while I clean the fork seals and then reinstall them.

I could not see any easy way to do that without taking a chance on damaging them. It's not even mentioned in the Yamaha factory manual.

If you damage them or need to replace them for other reasons (like a brace) you could pick up something like NOJ protectors (ebay, etc). I used them on mine for several years after removing the stock protectors.
