What do you guys make of that?
Last year was his first ever race in MotoGP and his first time at Qatar. This year he knows the track, has learned about carbon brakes and how to use 'em, and he also says the 1000cc bike is more to his liking, being a ex-superbike rider.

Here's a little factoid that I didn't know until I read it today ...

MotoGP Bridgestone tyres are inflated to around 8psi. Yes, eight psi. Now I understand when they talk about "stiff tyre wall construction" and how a fraction of a bar difference in pressure can affect grip and handling so much.

Maybe H-S was onto something after all ....

I think gp all run low pressure. 8 for front sounds odd.

Speaking of carbon brakes... This was the first time I saw them glowing red hot on deceleration. I thought it looked awesome!!!

That is a common misconception. When you move your weight around -- you are affecting traction control and the electronics designed for the rider.
Second, the engines in these machines are in a seriously advanced state of tune - and I don't mean peak power outputs. To get race distance out of 21 litres of fuel has a big impact on power delivery characteristics, most noticeably when getting back on the throttle. The torque has to be metered out carefully, too, to preserve tyre life.
This is another statement about electronics.

Colin Edwards has provided some very good insight to this over recent years, particularly since moving to the BMW-Suter CRT bike he's riding this season.

Without traction control and the other engine management systems, these MotoGP prototypes would be virtually unrideable.

Oh contrare, the 500cc 2 strokes were every bit as powerful as these bikes
I never suggested that rider made NO difference. But, when you can exit a corner at full throttle right after the apex - as the bike is standing up - and the front pulls a small wheelie, in maybe 3rd gear. THAT IS ELECTRONIC CONTROL.

So, we agree that the rider and machine must work together and in harmony to achieve the best performance?

The current 1000cc MotoGP machines are making around 240 - 260bhp with power bands much wider than the 500cc 2-strokes. Not saying the latter weren't hugely challenging to ride (without electronics ... ) but take away the electronics these days and most races would end with less than half the field taking the flag, I reckon.

Actually, if you read the article that our good buddy gixxerjason gave us (thank you Jason), it is LorenSo. It could be any of the three depending on the dialect spoken in the regions of Spain: Lorentho, Lorenzo, or Lorenso.

I don't know about the other bikes, but the new street Ducatis can be programmed to do exactly that. My '10 1198S has 8 level traction control, but I don't think that it is programmed to keep the front end at a certain height because I've had it up pretty high. On a closed course of course...

The BMW S1000RR has built in anti wheelie control.
