CBR1000RR or GSXR1000?
Still looking for a suitable upgrade from the Gen1 - nothing wrong with her just feel like something new.
I predominantly ride twisties in the Adelaide Hills (the loop?) and the more my technique improves the more the upright riding position feels wrong. There are extra special deals on new 2011 bikes and I have narrowed it down to a CBR1000RR or GSXR1000 (people tell me the R1 feels too heavy by comparison). Personally I think the Honda looks better. What would you choose? . |

I couldn't choose without riding all three, and possibly consider a ZX10r as well. My initial impressions lean to the R1, but I've ridden the previous gen R1.

The liter bikes have all gotten so good. Its a tough call. Honda makes a great product, never the fastest all out but nice nevertheless.
I think the R1 should be in the running. A properly set up suspension is all that is needed. I'm not sure why people would say the steering is heavy. Have you heard the crossplane engine with better exhaust? Its pure sex.

Biggest problem deciding is the dealers have these new ones on run out specials and they don't want to let people ride them. They didn't even want me to sit on them at first! I'm a bit uneasy about buying a bike that I haven't ridden, but the deals they are offering are too hard to go past.
Has anyone here ridden both? |

The problem is, they have developed the bike numerous times since. I couldn't give you a fair report. I can only imagine how much better they are now. My current CBR1000RR is one sweet ride. I cant say if I like it any better than the R1. But, I have enjoyed about 8,000 miles so far. The main reason I bought it was it was a SMOKIN' DEAL!! It is a 2008 model for $7400, bought brand new at the end of '09. As has been mentioned, they are all so good now, only a professional rider could decipher the true differences.

Thinking about my post made me realize you were not interested in the R1.
I guess my point was, they are all similar in position, and handling. All great. FWIW. I have ridden a few GSXR's. Felt good to me. Can't say it was better, or worse than the others. I have always been a Yamaha guy, but in terms of the savings offered in my Honda, I am more than happy. I've included a photo for you. You can't go wrong. Go with your gut. You'll love either one. BTW. My next literbike will be that sweet BMW S1000RR.

I think my next liter bike will be the BMW S1000RR.
There is just something about that bike. It looks bad ass and I have only heard good reviews. It's not in my budget now - but a few years down the road and I will acquire one.

That's a great looking ride. Looks like you do some touring on it too - I don't intend to tour on it, but it would be nice to be able to. How's the comfort compared to the FZ1? The BMW is not in the same ball park as the Honda and Suzuki deals. I reckon the Honda looks like the better package so I'll probably go with it. Just nervous about buying without trying first. |

Not really touring. Just have the tail bag for day trips in the Montana mountains.
We trailer out to Red Lodge, and ride the Beartooth, and Chief Joseph every year, in june. We do put on about 1000 miles, in 3 days of riding though. 350 mile days are doable, so long as it's twisty. Any liter bike is gonna be that way though. A few more from Montana/Wyoming...

I would buy the one that you can most easily tune the EFI. Some have ECUs that can be hacked and some do not. According to my inside sources, the Yamahas are the most problematic.

WOW!!!!
Those pics are incredible. I totally understand your reservations about buying something that you have not driven. I flat out do not think that I could buy something if I had not driven a similar model. Would it be possible for you to take a short/medium distance road trip to another town and take a test ride? IDK - you probably thought of that already but I thought I would mention it. Thanks again for the pics Torch. That is some incredible scenery. I bet you guys had a blast.

All these bikes are different, yet similar, and all can be adjusted and mod'd to suit you better. Go with what moves you..
