Which Tire?
I'm sure there are a ton of threads on tires, but I need tires and and narrowed my choices down to 2. I'm looking for some advice from the experienced FZ1 crowd who may have tried one or even both.
I can get the Michelin Power Pure Tires for $240 OR I can get the Pirelli Diablos for $210 The price is not the issue, both are great prices. I'm looking to know how they will handle and last. It seems from what I've read that the Michelin's will have a shorter life span. Thanks for any info.

I used to run regular Diablos on the FZ and they are a great tire, but I would check to see the manufacture date...
The PURE is very similiar to the Dunlop Q2 a bit more track oriented tire... Regular power 2cts are good If your thinking about spirited riding I would say the Q2 is awesome...but will not last too long. Pilot road 2 or 3 I think is what the fellas are using these days

I am going with the BT-016's this go around, you should look into those also.

The pilot road 2 is good, but when you up the pace they will let you know " Hey, you are reaching the limit". I use the pilot road 3 on my FJR. Great milage & handling, but i would not use them on my FZ1.
I've tried just about every brand of sport tire, & am currently half way through my 3rd set of Pirelli rosso corsas. For all round performance they're the pick of the current crop. |

This is turning into an "oil" thread. =D
I would agree with your thought that the Pure will probably not last as long as it is a sportier tire than the Diablo. That said I've been pleased with the life I've gotten out of the Michelin Pilot Powers I've used. |

you guys have given me some things to think about. A friend of mine with a FJR use's pr2's and likes them. I'll make a decision and order tires in a week or so. I have time, just getting bike ready for spring.

Pilot Power front, Pilot Road rear. No fancy numbers. Under $220 delivered from jakewilson.com, they'll wear pretty close together, and they'll lean all the way to the edges just fine.

It's not a bad thing, the warning is a bonus & the PR2 is a cost effective solution. What i meant was the PR2 will reach its limit well before a full on sports tyre & so it should. If you're after phenomenal grip & reasonable mileage, buy the sports tyre.

riderskate- have you considered the B-stone 023's? I'm running a set on my Fizz now, about 4,000 miles on the front and 6000 on the rear. The front is maybe half worn, the rear has 1/16" till the wear bar in the center, more to the sides. Excellent grip wet or dry.
They're wearing much better than and stick almost as well as the 016's (2 sets)- 014's (2.5 sets)- 010's (1.5 set) -012ss (1 set)- I've run on this bike since new. Averaged 2500- 4000 miles among 'em.The stock 020's were crap tho. 021's not much better. Most of my riding is done around the Smoky Mtn. area, not here in boring Florida. We have a place in Robbinsville NC so I use 'em up on some well known roads if you get my drift. Pressures are set for the type of riding, less for curves, more for highway. I use all my tires to the edges, but don't just ride twisties. I also ride many of the gravel roads up there too (Tatham Gap- Tellico Gap- Needmore Rd.- FS 711) in addition to occasional road trips between Fla and NC- and NC- NJ to visit family. On this bike, for me, 023's rock! On my SV 1000 and 650 I've run all Michelins- PP's-PP2CT's- PR2's. All stuck good, 3-4500 miles life-( incl. the PR2's.) Ran one set of Diablo's on the 650- was NOT impressed, switched to Michelin's. Currently the SV1k is on BT016's. Stick like glue and better wear so far. My old 06' Gsxr 1k only had Pirelli Corsa 3's, 3 sets in 9500 miles. Good dry traction, not as good in the wet. Of course, that bike was a full time exercise in throttle control. Absurdly easy to break it loose on certain roads up there. ![]() Anyway, sorry for the long post, you asked for info- that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. Hope it helps.

I just came from the PR2's that I had on at The Dragon a year ago and scraped both pegs no problem, plenty of traction for me. This year I put the PR3's on and did a trip to southern Indiana doing a 450 mile day in the rain, the only time they slipped was on wet tarsnakes

One of the best bang for the buck tire combinations I have used (and am still using) is the Michelin Pilot Power front tire with a Pilot Road 2 rear tire.
