Stainless Steel Brake Lines-The best ones-

My question is everyone! Which manufacturer of Stainless Steel Brake Lines are the best on the market? There are so many companies who produce them, and I'm looking to buy front and rear lines for my 2003 Bumblebee, just looking for some input!

Cheers

I don't think any are 'bad' really. I put HEL's from Alex (MishaCycle here) on my Gen II (which still had stock lines), my Gen I came with stainless Gallfer lines already installed..

Got my Fren Tubo's from PJ's Parts. Quality lines with a custom length upper front brake line. A lot of extra crush washers were included which was great since I needed them after having a brain fart during install.

PJ was great to deal with, got same day responses to several emailed questions and he took care of me on the phone when I had problems with PayPal. I was happy enough that I went back to him when I decided to upgrade my brake pads too.

So the main benefit of having steel brake lines is to avoid the deterioration of the rubber ones?

No. Steel or kevlar lines do not expand under pressure, so all of the braking force goes to the calipers, instead of partially 'inflating' the lines. Much better feel..

I would also expect they help with longevity of the fluid, and seals as a result. That's just a guess, though..

They might, but I would not skim on changing fluid every year. Small price to pay to know that your brakes are always at 100%

Agreed. I was just thinking that aged rubber hoses would start to contaminate the fluid quicker (even between changes)..

Stainless Or Rubber?

I'm reading some comments that I don't fully understand.

Aren't stainless steel lines just rubber lines with a stainless wrap/cover or are they 100% stainless steel?

I was under the impression that the inner line was still rubber.

I wasn't, but don't know. If so, they would surely age like OEM rubber. I was told they last pretty much forever..

Old Age

Brake lines don't normally deteriorate from the inside out. Most of the ageing process is external and due to exposure to ozone and UV.

The really good Ricky-Rocket High-Speed Low-Drag ones are teflon-lined steel braided hoses. The Teflon doesn't age, and is unaffected by brake fluid (and just about everything else). As I am an aircraft jet mechanic and jet engine test inspector, ALL of the pressure lines we utilize are steel braided and teflon lined. The rubber hoses have a shelf life and service life, the steel braid/teflon coated ones do not. That in itself should tell you something.
