I don't understand how come Yamaha has jacked up the FZ1 ECU so bad that getting a simple flash right is getting tough. R1s, etc have much more complex ECUs and I have not `heard so many complaints about them and they actually WORK....

I don't get it either. I really like the flash lower end performance, just need to get the fueling right. I was not expecting it to be perfect, but it could have been better.

Should have stayed off the CBR last weekend. The response and power delivery of that bike is excellent. Makes the FZ not so good in comparison.

We just need to get your bike up on MAP based tuning and all that should go away.

It may come to that. Is TPS mapping just plain non-repeatable for constant conditions?

Once you go to MAP based tuning, I can point out in the data what is going wrong. You have to tune with an adder type system to what the logic is on the underlying system. You can spot it real quick in the data logs once you know what to look for.

Here's the results of my last tuning exercise. 3rd iteration of autotune for 60-70 miles, many throttle pulls at fixed throttle the best I could hold the setting. Trims are converging after 3 runs at nearly the same conditions. Smoothed the map, then made some adjustments from the data log. Left most of the settings alone. No adjustments 40% and higher TPS, not enough data. 3-4k feet, 80-90F, coolant temps 170-190. Will be interesting to see how well it repeats next week. More fuel required than the results I had running at 60F OAT.

When I decide how good (or bad) TPS tuning is, I'll try MAP or a variation thereof.

How do you have your AFR table set up?

Close to post 666, except the 13.6s are 13.4s. Most notable was 4-5k up to 15% throttle. 60F tune showed AFRs in the high 14s or 15 when holding a steady throttle. Switching to autotune AFRs, changed immediately to low-mid 13s. Could switch back and forth and see this real time.

Same road, just a different day and 25-30F hotter.
