Introduction

Hello everyone!

I've lurked in the forum on and off for a little over a year, but since I just posted my first post, I thought I should introduce myself.

I live in Southern California and have been riding for a little over 10 years now. I started on a Ninja 500 (aka, EX500) and made the swap to an Gen I FZ1 about two years ago. I use it both for fun and to navigate a nasty commute to a work site far from my house one day a week. I love the comfort, power, range, and MPG of the bike, but am mechanically an idiot, so whenever something goes wrong, or I think something has gone wrong, I scurry over here and check out the forum.

This place is such a wealth of information!

Thank you! It turned out to be a stuck carb float. Thanks to some tips from the community I got it back up and running!

Thank you and thanks haha. I don't know why this would have the reputation for an old man's bike though! Naked bikes are in. Trellis frames are in. Right? Right?! Dang it Torch I thought I was cool :p

Welcome aboard and congrats on the bike. Plenty of knowledgeable folks here if you have issues. Most of it has been covered so search is also your friend.

Welcome to the board. Having lived there, I can attest that commuting on a bike in SoCal takes balls of steel. Props to you sir

Haha! It's not THAT bad where I live, thankfully. There are carpool lanes the whole way and they're pretty wide, making the lane-splitting pretty easy aside from the obvious hazards of lane splitting. I briefly commuted straight through downtown LA, where the lanes are narrow and the traffic is just as bad as where I am now; it was bad times!

Agreed. I rode in LA for 22 years. I miss being able to split lanes out here in Beantown. Only real way to be sure you're going to get from here to there in an allotted amount of time.

Downtown 101/10/110 area can get tight, but still doable. Lots of people will nudge over a bit to let you by.

I make a ride down to California every year or two, so I can lane split literally as much as humanly possible.
