I wouldn't know, we are both too cheap to even go into a casino. I think mostly slots everywhere, and video slots I don't understand nor do they do anything for me. I'd rather see the old spinning wheels. And you use cards instead of coins or cash, I dunno. Anyway, we usually talk about spending $20 on it, but then we don't even bother.

I once had a great weekend in Elko, NV, but any other time I tried gambling the experience was just meh.

Today we made it to Custer State Park ahead of the snow coming in. It was super. We saw about seven other cars while we were there, got off on a gravel road that should've been closed where we came in at, because it was locked on the other end, and we had to fit the RAV through a spot to get around it.

I think he looked like he needed an ear skritch but I didn't try.

It was about 29 degrees when we got there.

But just enough moisture for a fog more than snow.

I could get out and snap birds but even in about two minutes it felt like my fingers (in flip top mittens) ached to the bone.

So we came back and had lunch in Rapid City at Firehouse Brewing.

One of two 2-story murals outside...

A few birds from last weekend....

This little nondescript guy is a Lapland Longspur. I was super happy to find two decent sized flocks of them out at a 40,000 acre ranch we've managed to make into an IBA (Important Bird Area) because they are grassland endemics at risk because of decreasing habitat.

Tundra Swans at Lake DeSmet - we've also had two groups of 12 and 5 come on our pond in the mornings, but man it's hard to get out and take pics when it is half dark and 6 degrees.

Pinyon Jay at Keyhole Reservoir

Red-breasted Nuthatch at Keyhole

Red Crossbill at Keyhole

White-breasted Nuthatch at Keyhole

A few birds from the last couple of days....

Ring-necked Duck from the pond behind our house

Great-horned Owl - Belle Fourche Reservoir

Bonaparte's Gull in non-breeding plumage - Belle Fourche Reservoir

Blue Jay with an itch - our yard

Red-tailed Hawk at Custer State Park

And the catch of the day...Snow Buntings at Custer State Park!

Need to figure out how to add a heated grip onto your Nikon

We ate & had a couple brews at The Firehouse Brewing Co back last year ... one of the better places to eat in Rapid. And I thought that statue of the Lakota women and girl looked familiar ...

Luck exists!

Good idea on the heated grips! Actually I'm missing two out of the three grips, and the third may be not long for this world. The thumb grip I've already replaced once. The camera is perpetually in my hand if we are out.

Nice! I particularly like the shot of the owl, and that Pine Grosbeak grabs the eye too, never seen one before.

Ah shoot, I gave the wrong ID with that one. I do that all the time. It's a Red Crossbill!

Thanks for the clarification. Considering I can barely remember my own name no harm done

Great photos as usual Ms T.............

Make fun all you want, owls are badass, scrawny legs n'all...........

Early this morning when I couldn't sleep, I watch both an owl and a red tailed hawk grab up breakfast from a field next to me. Both nuggets appeared to be field mice or ground moles. As a reprobate myself, I were jealous.

Today, I got home from work, and I was getting ready to go for a walk. Before I did, I stopped to count the mallards on the ever shrinking open water on the pond behind the house. A few flew off, and at the same time, a handful of Coots came over from the edge to the open water. I thought they had seen me moving from the window, but then a Bald Eagle swooped in! In the time it took me to turn around, run about seven feet, grab my camera (almost dropped it), and run back, it had just snatched one of the coots. In a way, it was a good thing I missed the actual moment, because I was already struggling with what I was about to see. The eagle took the coot a few feet away, and I was glad to see that in that short few seconds, the coot was no longer suffering. The eagle then flew a little farther down the pond where it spent the next 20 minutes finishing its meal before it flew to the trees across the street. This is the full 20 minute video. Forgive the shaking at the end, I was trying to keep rain off the camera.
