Jetmech, please post pics! I'm very interested to see what your frame swap project looks like.

Greetings all, from a newb. I'm thinking of looking at a clean, low mileage '08 this weekend. Was the frame cracking sorted out by then? Couldn't find any by Google search but haven't read all of this thread either.

Anyone?

Thanks........

Well...

I picked up the frame and got the bike back together. No problems at the dealer. The guys were super nice and friendly and said they would put the bike back together if I brought everything down to them. I thanked them and went on my way. It took about 40 hours to get it together( that's including the 3 hour round trip to get the frame and all the running around) and I'm very happy I did the work myself. Call me jaded but I trust myself more doing this type of thing.

I took her out on the first run......and.....I left a screw loose on the left fairing closeout panel.. It fell out and is now lost forever. I can live with that though(new one is on order) I put a little over 300 miles on it and she runs like a champ.

The only thing I can say is that if this happens to you, CALL, CALL, CALL every dealership.....multiples times if you have to. From this experience I've found out that you have to find the one person that will make the phone call for you to Yamaha Corporate. Thank you guys for all the good vibes. I'll post a pic after I get all the bug guts off her.

what kind of alumina used to weld the frame? I ask because in order to keep welding, the aluminum with which it has been welded must be compatible with the aluminum from which the frame is made

LOL, however that dudes post did remind me of a guy on the facebook group who had a cracked frame, He said he was going to have just the outside portions welded and "keep an eye on it" because he didnt want to take the bike apart.

But there are still most likely bikes out there that are affected by the cracked frame issue, yes?

I was pointing that out because he may not get an answer to his question, members move on ..........etc...............

Frame breaks are still relevant sure, especially since the older the bike gets, and more miles to aggravate the situation, it could happen.
