Punched some Steely Dan into the iHeart radio tonight for the ride in. Just me and Steely in the helmet. For a brief time, all was right with the world.

Steely Dan is in its own unique musical class--the melodic and rhythmic progressions are always a bit unpredictable and always interesting to listen to. I've seen Donald Fagan live with Michael McDonald and another artist. I also saw a SD cover band a few years ago that was spot on. Really great music.

Not much music warrants the substantial investment in high end audio equipment. The way they recorded and the digital innovations used make this groups tuneage well worth it. Hi-Res versions are spectacular.

Exibit A: Starts with bone playing, piano is mic'd for intentional string torture and the horns will get ya. RIP Donald Becker, thanks for the greatness.
This version and this version only.....

Analog tape was used for the bass, it just sounds wall to wall.
Caution: Morph has and will continue to murder drivers without discrimination. Large amps with ample headroom advised. Tape down fine china, crack a window for ventilation.

Probably because it was a Donald Fagen solo album rather than Steely Dan. All the Fagen solo albums are good and Walter Becker worked on some of them.

Morph won a grammy for surround sound recording.

I deleted my thought process... Royal Scam 1976 with new digital experiments that drove the bandmates nuts - Morph the Cat 2006 and Fagen uses analog tape for a better recording instrument. Ironic. Becker probably laughed.

man that royal scam is good... there is so much missing when sharing YT though.

Delish live stuff.

The Dan is used heavily on the 'fire up a new house system' playlist. Morph will find any loose HVAC parts and cabinet doors. There is something in the first 4 bars of Pretzel Logic that gets a nod, watching a client play out the ending on a broom while his wife is yaking about curtains says we all know... greatness.

Awesome. Babylon Sisters is one I put on to "test" my home system. Lots of separation. Hmmm, have to catch the gf gone, it's time for a new test session.

Turn that jungle music down.

Testing is important. Unplug the TV and vibrate some air.

Pandora likes to tell me I stream 3800 songs a month, + Spoify and XM and YT and Google. Testing 1 - 2

There is an excellent documentary on Steely Dan on the AXS tv channel from time to time. Always had different studio musicians during their existence.
