Loaded up and ready to head to Blackriver Falls, WI in the morning, just before it began to rain.

GF is staying home due to her daughter being in the hospital with a kidney infection, otherwise there would be a Outlander 570 camo in the bed as well. Going solo, staying with a co-worker.

I plan on riding the XMR on Thursday and RZR on Friday and Saturday.

Parked in the driveway as I don't like leaving on the street overnight.

Yeah that's the big event sponsored by that Yamaha dealer...right?
We were going to go but couldn't get organized in time.

Ya know... I really don't know. It's just the weekend we chose to go there.

Had a nice ride in Black River Falls, WI this weekend. Put on 250 miles.

I put 100 miles on my Outlander 570 XMR on Thursday, then 150 miles on my RZR Friday and Saturday.

A co-workers girlfriend rode my XMR on Friday and Saturday so that received a 250 mile total as well. She has a Polaris 400 (no power steering and weak motor) which couldn't quite keep up in the deep sand trails so she opted to ride my XMR for the duration.... Made me happy seeing the miles rack up on the XMR vs having it just sitting at the cabin.

Was it pretty busy/crowded with the organized ride going on?

The trails were pretty busy on Saturday. We only put on 50 miles that day.

Thursday and Friday were perfect with a little rain/mist on and off which really kept the dust down. There was no need for dust masks those days and we put on 100 miles each of these days with little traffic on the trails. You could go into the turns fast and exit with nice power slides with no worries of meeting someone.

We were hoping to get out this weekend to play, but I just realized it is the deer hunting opener.

We spent Memorial Day weekend on our annual trip to Hurley WI.

We put on 500+ miles over 4.5 days of riding.

Day .5 was a half day of riding. Not many pics, just riding around the trails around town.

Hurley is known for its Nightlife and Strip clubs... saw this picking up some pizza Thursday evening.

Parked at the Townhouse.

Day 1.0 we ventured to the infamous "Outlook" and Lake Superior.

Some trailside battery repair.

Day 2.0 We attempted to ride a trail across a mountain to Lake Galilee, WI. The northern route was blocked with fallen trees. We had checked this route out the day before. So I tried to hit the trail from the southern route just to find it blocked off. We put on 100 miles of fire roads this day just to be disappointed not to be able to take the trail over the mountain.

Day 3.0 was the ultimate day. 12 hours of riding and 201 miles. We tackled the infamous Dead Horse Trail. 50 miles of fire roads to the northern tip of the trail. Then south down the trail. Once we tackled the Dead Horse from tip to tip, we fueled up in Winter, WI at 5pm, took some fire roads back north to avoid the southern Dead Horse, and were on and off the Dead Horse for the northern portion to head back to Hurley. 9am to 9pm with 2 stops for lunch and a quick dinner.

Kudos to my buddy who rode my Can Am XMR 570, his 14 year old son on his Polaris 450 and certainly my GF on her Can Am 570 for making it this far in one day and riding the Dead Horse. I was in my rzr and leading and only had a sore back. The rest, ate dust the entire trip and muscled around the Dead Horse for many, many miles. Not sure my old ass could have done it on an atv. This is the 2nd time my GF has done it on her atv.

On the way to dead horse... one of few paved roads.

Day 4.0 was an easy day of a local gun range where we unloaded our 9mm, 45 and .22 auto handguns at some targets and explored some of the local water falls.

So we sold our atvs. She couldn't ride anymore due to tendon issues with her hand.
Thinking of the Yamaha YXZ1000 side by sides. Maybe next year.
Research time.

I rode with a buddy on his spare Bruin, he had a cabin in the Moshannon area. After a couple times out I had a bad urge to get my own dirt scoot again, so I bought a Yamaha Big Bear 400 IRS.

Rode it for a while and decided to add skid plates and A arm protection.

The aluminum was great for the weight, but it hung up hard on rocks, so I added a layer of 1/4" UHMW.

I rode for a couple years , it got me back into the dirt game

But two wheels won over and the Big Bear just gets used as a work horse now.

I figured out if I leave it in 2wd with v-bar chains on I can chew through the driveway ice and get some stones on top, much nicer when it refreezes and helps melt faster.

Doing fishtails up the hill is an added bonus.

Thanks to a recent storm a buddy got a windfall. The Big Bear worked great to help create some back yard trials obstacles.

Sold my grizzly 660 and picked up a rhino 700, so much more handy for around the farm work. And can fit more kids on it then the grizzly!

Those also seemed like the most interesting to me. I love the idea of having to switch gears. I would be most interested in the ones with the normal clutch and gearbox, not so much the paddle shifting.

The GF and I headed back to Black River Falls WI this past weekend for a little less than 2 days of riding.

Here is a pic from day 1. I nearly sunk in the middle of the trail with this water crossing. I just hit the middle section of the trail and then... gurgle, gurgle, gurgle of the tail pipe under water and the footwells filling up with water. No wet butt though. A quick stop to pull the floor board drain plugs and we were on our way.

My GF took the extreme right side of the trail and made it through ok.

We only rode about 170 miles over 2 days but had a lot of fun.

Torch, depending on the riding you do choose carefully if you decide upon the YXZ. If fast dune riding or trails the manual will be fine. If not choose the paddle shifter. Hard to ride technical trail sections with a manual.

I know you're a Yamaha guy as am I (bike wise). BUT definitely also check out the new Honda Talon. Absolutely an awesome machine and if I had the $ would buy one.

I can't be of too much help... I'm a member of brand specific forums that I own, not a general forum.

So I did a little research on the Honda Talon 1000. Looks to be down considerably on power (104?!) when compared to the other 1000cc side by sides. Sounds like good low end grunt, but...
