I thought of ordering a burger, but I want to save myself.

Excellent hashed browns, scrambled eggs and a side of spinach.
Now to gear up for a long bicycle ride. It's freakin' gorgeous outside.

I am so going to have a burger today.

I may have to have my first Five Guys. There's one about 20 miles from here.

It was actually a fairly nice restaurant, for the area, that had a burger on the menu.
We are pretty entrenched in our eatery's around here. Even though I may not have been born at the time, they may have the same staff.

My favorite steak place has clippings on the wall from when they were raided for gambling in the 40's. "Destination food" has a way of surviving.

Funny thing when I did a google search for restaurants in the area it didn't come up, but some on both sides in Columbus Junction and Ainsworth did.

I found the same thing. They are off the google grid! When you click "what's near here" it comes up blank.

The fact that it's Iowa, you could probably call city hall on Monday and have a pleasant and informative discussion about what is/was there.

Another funny thing, back then in that area some places called a burger with lettuce and tomato on it a "California burger", I guess since that's where their lettuce and tomato came from. They were not available in the off-season.

I was used to ordering a burger "with everything", which included lettuce and tomato and onion. "Everything" in Iowa got me a burger with mustard, mayo, ketchup and pickles. I got used to adding "AND lettuce, tomato and onion". When I did that at a truck stop near Muscatine, the cook yelled back at me through the pick-up window, "I got some beets back here I can put on it if you want those too."

Good times.

And another thing, my waitress at the diner in downtown Columbus Junction couldn't spell "California", so she just got as close as she could when writing it on the ticket. I started calling them "Cafaronia" burgers.

This is the burger thread, not the running thread.

Actually, today I am mounting a DRO on one of my milling machines and going kite flying with Gabriel.

Flying this. It's about 35 feet long. Quite a workout holding it down.

The tail spins.

A new Five Guys opened up about two miles down the road.

Thanks to this thread we have to eat there now. Thanks a lot.

Maybe we'll walk there. Not.
