With one cylinder's exhaust temperature >1.5 x higher than the other 3, I think it would point to a lean fuel condition on that cylinder. Lean = Hot.

Finally got around to replacing my coils. Bike was running rough at low RPMs for months, and I (being lazy) just got used to it. What with the quarantine and lots of free time, when I had my front wheel off to change the tire I decided to finally go for it and replace all of the coils. I had bought them off of eBay (used R1, about $50 total) a few months back.

The bike now runs like a dream. I hadn't realized how much I had been compensating for the crappy coils. It's like a different beast.

-2007, stock. about 28,000 miles on it.

I bought used R1 coils off ebay years ago anticipating this problem, but still haven't installed them. I haven't perceived a problem yet. 2006 with ~60k km

make sure you carry them with you on long trips. I once had to change a coil on the street in Manhattan when I was on a trip from Virginia Beach. You never know.

Had one coil go bad twice now . Last time I was close to home , time before was not but rode it home . The power seemed less than one cylinder down .
Does anything know if the coils work in pairs ?
Cheers ! John
