I relied on the knowledge that Opel represented/became part of the GM empire in Europe while Ford was just always Ford despite dalliances with Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo and especially Mazda.

Interesting story about that Jaguar brand. High quality luxury car for decades.
Then just beautiful garbage after the 80s. When Ford bought Jag for billions, and lost it's ass on that investment for many years, they couldn't wait to dump it.

I think the rot for Jaguar set-in in the late 60s and early 70s when they succumbed to the British industrial disease. Poor management, unions that took advantage of it, steelworks that dated back to the 19th century and the challenge from the Germans and Japanese who had factories and foundries that were all post-WW2 and had cherry-picked the best practises from the US, Britain and other industrial nations (although the Germans never really lost it).

If you ever find a book called The Reckoning by David Halberstam, it is worth reading. It is a comparative history of the Ford and Nissan Motor Companies up until the 1980s. The decline of Western car makers and the rise of the Japanese is something you see reflected in the ascent of the Koreans at the expense of the Japanese. The Chinese are doing it too but in a slightly different way, only because their population and economies are so large that they don't need western markets the way that the Japanese and Koreans did. China only lacked raw resources otherwise they could have vacuumed up all the knowledge they needed and become a closed economy in a way that the US largely was prior to WW2.

26 out of 30. The ones I missed were the stupid questions about movies — had nothing to do with the cars. And the Mustang has never been a competitor to the Corvette. Camaro yes, Corvette no.

And bringing up the bottom I got 17 right. A coin toss for each question would have done almost as well. I didn't guess many the Hollywood questions right.

24/30, most of the ones I got wrong were about the movie trivia questions. Just like everyone else!
