You can do it. It'll probably cost you a thousand dollars to do it but it can be done. I almost did the same thing then figured that I know how to downshift well enough for what I do that I could never justify spending the money. I'd love to ride one that had one though. Can't remember off the top of my head who made them for the 1st Gen.

Installing a clutch that is almost worth half as much as your average gen1, silly. I have ridden a few bikes with them (not gen1s), i personally dont feel they justify their high cost.

Your bike, your money. I say do it, enjoy, and share the experience with the forum with ride reports. Full speed ahead.

This.

Don't have to relearn if you switch bikes. Works everywhere, in all conditions.

Assuming the description is accurate, appears to be a generic replacement that utilizes the basket from a Suzuki - so they have common parts to be used across many bikes..

Thanks everyone, I bought this bike new in 2003 and sold it to a friend in hard times, he swapped the front end with a 04 R1 and installed a full Akrapovic pulled the air box & re-jeted. It's making just shy of 140 hp on the Dyno on a cool northwest day. I bought it back from him a few weeks ago So she is back home, not going to let her go again! so it's all about buying my mistress new toys.

I see no benefit in a $1,100 slipper clutch unless you are riding very very very hard at the track and at that point, I'm still too slow for it to matter.

Humans have emotional attachments to inanimate machines, thus we call our bikes, cars, planes, ships, "she" or "mistress". So if she needs (at least imagined) some high dollar widget, just do it and everybody stays happy. If we limited the spend on our bikes to only what someone else thought was practical, most of us would be a sad lot.

Can't wait to read the install (photos please) and ride report for this slipper clutch.

Yea, unless you're pushing it extremely hard at the track, it doesn't make a whole ton of sense. And at that point, there's definitely better bikes for the job.

Not saying it wouldn't be cool! Just don't do it expecting to get any of the money back out of it if you eventually sell. The bike is worth $3,000, regardless of if that slipper clutch is on there.
If it's a bike you plan to keep and ride a lot over the next 10-20 years, then spending that money on a new clutch upgrade, really isn't much in the long run.

Last couple of FJR model years have a slipper clutch, and it can be swapped into a number of the prior years for very little - <$400..
