Oh my! Seahorse!

Pic-a-nics - on Friday we found out a local restaurant rents the basket and cooks and fills it for you!

We went here...

Okay, you hosers are petering out on me again, so I'm going to pick one more theme and maybe we'll give it a rest for a couple of weeks or so.

Nicely done, both of you!

Little Bighorn is an amazing place. I've been out there and night and it's a little unworldly.

3/7

Last Saturday I got stuck in a Wyoming traffic jam, about the 4th cattle drive of the year. We were up at about 8500' conducting a breeding bird survey that started at dawn, and eventually came to find a herd of cows being mooooved from one mountain grazing area to another. We sat and watched for about five minutes, but while I could tell the cowboys were trying to keep the cows together, all they seemed to be doing was circling up the stragglers and putting them back at one spot on the road. We had a few cars behind us, and a few waiting on the other side, so I called out to one of the pokes, "Where ya headed?" in my best Oklahoma voice. He made a comment about just up the road a bit, and everyone seemed to be in a hurry today. "Yup" I said. After a few minutes he came back to my side of the 4Runner, and allowed that if I liked I could (do their job) and edge my way up and through the herd by staying to the right, and the other cars could follow me, so I did, window down, yeehaws and giddyuping all the way along as I moved the cows down the road ahead of me and we finally broke through. They really needed about 2-3 more folks on horseback to do what they were trying to do. Typically there are at least four.

I've been known to hop out and move 300 head of cattle away from a gate.

Indeed - forbidden to interact in any way, including providing any kind of feed. There aren't many "locals" allowed to live on the island and they're all on first-name basis with the rangers, so not much risk of that.

This guy was a bucking fool, but he never managed to throw her, and it was certainly entertaining to watch! No style points in jumper...

Looks like a rich breed! High strung. Way to hang on!

June 2017, we were up birding in the Bighorns...

Damn, ugliest horse I ever saw...

When we saw someone had a big semi hauler parked up along our way. They got as far in as they could, opened the back, and horses started to run out and over the hill.

Even though the horses seemed to know where they were going, there was a posse to make sure they went the right way.

Everyone looked excited to be out of the trucks.

I'm coming, I'm coming

What a place...

I've never actually gotten as far in as to find the ranch, but if you need a place to explore from when you come to Wyoming, this is where they were driving the horses into.

I'd love to ride out there. In WY, we were in Medicine Bow - mountainous territory. After riding thru hail and lightning, we camped up on a mountain and got snow overnight in August. That was when the horses decided to head back to the ranch by themselves..

Harney Peak South Dakota, the highest peak between the Alps and the Rockies. It is easier to shoot pictures riding on a horse than riding on a motorcycle.
