As i have a couple long distance tours coming up this summer, i thought it might be a good idea, to lube the clutch cable. I usually lube the cable every six months or so, so it was time for lubing. I remove the cable from the clutch perch, so i can drip into the hallow part of the cable, some light oil. I make a funnel with some masking tape, and that seems to work well for me.

So, i remove the cable end, and i see one of the cable wires has broken! Still plenty of them in place, but if one goes, then more are sure to break. And of course, that would happen in the middle of Washington State, in about two months from now! lol!

Can't complain about this particular clutch cable however, as it came with the bike from Japan. 108,483 miles, on that o.e.m. clutch cable! As i mentioned, i keep things on this bike, well taken care of.

So, i have two spare clutch cables that were each on two gen.1's that i parted out, a few years ago. The one i put on the bike, looks almost new. The other one is brand new, and will go with me, on all my future tours.

So, almost new clutch cable, on the ol' wreck. Next up, change out the air filter, which i forgot to do today. Oh well, at least i can still find where i live, after a ride!!!!! lol!

Dean

P.S. Gee, the clutch lever is a bit easier to use now, also.

Yanked the ECU and mailed it off to Ivan, I've got a lot of mountain road riding days between now and August and wanted them with no FC or restrictions.

Unless you're planning a 4xround-the-world tour, I don't think you really need to worry about carrying a spare!

You are probably right, but the spare cable packs very flat, in my tank bag.

Nothing special but I just rode her to work today.
Makes it a bit less of a chore when I take the bike.

Gen1 Signals

I was shopping around for replacement signals to make the back end of my Gen1 look a little less dated, but I didn't like the looks of most of the aftermarket options - plus I wanted the visibility of the OEM size. I saw this set from an '08 ZX6R and bought them immediately.

I put the signals on a week ago, but didn't realize that I had run out of bullet connectors. I got the new connectors in the mail yesterday, and put everything back together today. I also trimmed a second stock fender that I bought off the 'bay and installed it in the mean time. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. The signals match the Protons up front pretty well. I think they're quite sexy.
