You're holding it wrong.

Sorry, it just brings back good memories.

Had an XS Max for a week now, coming from an 8 plus. It is fast, the Face ID works very well, and the camera is nice; but the big screen is really the big seller. When surfing or using apps like amazon or alien blue it’s nice to see more of the information. Battery life has been stellar, I’m on my phone quite a bit and I’ve yet to run it completely down in a day.

Also, the gestures for home screen is so simple and easy (you just swipe up from the bottom). Less moving parts of course means less to break. I thought I’d miss the home button but I haven’t to my surprise.

A few things -

First - Maybe I'm spoiled with the battery. For the longest time it has been going 36 - 40 hours between charges. Basically I charge it while asleep one night, then again the 2nd night after that. Lately it's been dropping to 50-60% in 24 hours then down to 20-30% midway through the 2nd day. So like today was the 2nd day, and I had to charge it at work around lunchtime. Went up to 75% by 3pm and now, 6ish hours later, it's down to 65%

Do I expect too much? I want it to last 2 full days on a charge. That's what this 6S+ has done it's whole life up till recently.

Second - does the face ID thing work in the dark? Does it shine a light on your face at night just to be able to unlock it?

Third - I'm reluctant to get a 7 or 8 because Apple is already on another generation or two after them. I don't want to be in this same situation a year from now. I want it to last 2-3 years.

I mean, i'd do the 30$ Apple Battery Replacement. Its got the best shot to fix your most immediate concern and if you chose to upgrade, you only are out 30$ and they sell quick on Ebay to recoup cost of new phone

On the 6, the att cat told me the last update is #12. There will be no more updates for it or any other phone below the 10. That said, I did the last update today. Took 15 minutes. I dont know any difference as I never owned an Apple other than the one for work and it was limited usage. No interwebz, only email, no emojis, no texts to anyone outside of work. (I dont know how they knew that one) I like this one well enough. Battery is okay but, like Grom said, it just dont last.
Suppose if I stick with it, I gotta buy the new battery. Played with my daughters I phone 10 today, its exactly like Des said, its a holy shit moment.........

Face ID does work in the dark and the sensors are infrared if I recall, no bright light in the dark to recognize you

Battery life is always one of those your mileage may vary things, always depends on how much and how you use it but I’ve not had any issue. I always charge nightly just so I don’t run out mid day. On the rare occasion I’ve forgotten to charge, even my 8+ still had juice for a chunk of the next day and this one is noticeably better.

For reference, I just looked up the trade in for my phone at Best Buy and Gazelle. $500 for my iPhone X Space Gray 256 Gb. They sell them for $750 Refurbished.

If anyone is interested in me selling it for $600 shipped let me know (to cover shipping and tax), otherwise I'll go trade it in on the Xs in the next couple days.

Acknowledged. Thinking about it. Not sure what I'm going to do yet but will consider that carefully.

And let you know in the next couple of days.

The wife and I put new batteries into our 6S models at the apple store for $29 each. They actually hold a charge again! Figure it'll get us by until t-mobile offers the new one with a BOGO offer for us to switch.

The A12 "Bionic" processor in the latest iPhone is claimed to be 15% faster than previous A11 cores, and the G11P GPU is claimed to be a whopping 50% faster.

Along this line, Apple is also focusing on developing and manufacturing it's chips in house also, and the results are obviously impressive. There seems little doubt that Apple will move on from Intel chips in many of it's devices sooner than later.

My 6s is ok except the charging connector is wrecked. Right now phones are our only connection to the world, and that very tenuous, thanks to bastard hurricane Michael.

Good to see you posting. We've been wondering about you, and Oop too.

Haven’t heard from oops. This storm was a bastard. We were lucky, no damage, but my neighborhood was pretty hard hit. An older couple right down the road are living with a massive oak tree in their living room, power lines are lying right in the road all over the place. Haven’t seen the first boom truck in my neighborhood yet. I think it might be more than a week before we get power back.

I assume that oops evacuated. He lives more on the western end of Panama City Beach, which wasn’t as badly hit as Panama City and further east, so I hope he’s ok.

Plus his house is new and therefore built to new code. Storm surge rather than wind would probably be his main worry. He's only about 5 blocks from the Gulf. Just realized I have his number. Guess I'll try to call him tomorrow.
