When LS said "dam", I assumed yours was "Hoover". The original name for Hoover Dam was Boulder Dam. Guess I'm bored tonight.

I've spent a lot of time in airplanes in the last year and in the last 6 months a lot of that has been flying across the continent, over our huge deserts, puny mountains, varied farmland etc. I almost always choose a window seat. Noise-cancelling headphones on listening to music or podcasts and watching the varied landscapes below is more entertaining than most in-flight entertainment. Sometimes I even pull out a camera for some photos, especially crossing the deserts.

Seeing farms and mines that are hundreds of kilometres away from the nearest town or neighbours is always interesting.

The channels in the pic below can be dry for most of the year or sometimes several years and then a big tropical rain even like a cyclone will send water thousands of kilometres south causing floods than can last for months. When I flew over this a couple of days ago, they'd had a month of temperatures over 100degreesF and they are still counting.

This is roughly halfway between Brisbane, where I now live, and Darwin where I am currently working.

Nice!

It does give one some crazy perspective on the places we live in to be sure.

This one is from, I think, the Gulf of Mexico. I was flying to St Thomas for 48 hours of business meetings, promptly got food poisoning, spent most of my time dying in my room, had the hotel staff go out for meds, and then flew home.

I missed the chance to post in with the old pictures.

This was what a family photo looked like in the depression. This was in a photo album my mom recently received. It used to belong to the small boy in the mans lap. The other boy standing up is my Father. My Aunt's are on either side.

They are also in this picture nearly a year or 2 later. It appears the backwards numbers may be the date 4-3-8 which would maybe be around easter 1938.

Who are the rest of the people in the photo? Are they all related?

Yes, all members or in laws of the Brake(Grandmother's maiden name) Family.
Third man and woman in from our right are my grandparents. Both gone before I was born.
I Don't think anyone from that picture is still with us. Although my Dad had a non-related Uncle live to 101.
