So the weather warmed up into the 40's today, so I went out for a ride. Did the Foothills Parkway from just above Maryville down to 129, then did 129 down and back up, then headed back to the ranch through the traffic on 411.

Naturally, my first run of the Gap was a day after it snowed, low temps, all by myself. The grommet way.

Good news is that the road was clean and clear, there was very little traffic, no cops, and though I did not intend to do so, I wore my brand new rear tire right to the edges. Yeah, full lean in 40 degree weather. But I snuck up on it real careful and made very judicious use of the throttle and brakes. Thought I was taking video but it only lasted 18 seconds and the battery on my camera gave up. Not sure what I expected - I haven't charged it since last July.

Thursday still looks like the best day for more riding. I'll plan to be out there from about 2pm on. Will probably do a couple of runs then head east and back over the mountain to Gatlinburg. Something like that.

Will get out today, leaving at noon. Plan to meet PJ around 1:30 at the overlook. Sunny and 63° later today.

Of course tomorrow also looks good now, so I'll do it again Got to be back to the ranch by 5 tomorrow, so will probably ride 1-5pm ish.

Saturday says rain in the AM, will have to play it by ear.

I got to play church volleyball last night with my friend Steve's church youth group. It was pretty informal, and at the end it devolved into a volleyball/hackey ball/soccer kind of game. I haven't touched a volleyball in like 20 years, but still have the overhand serve and didn't totally embarrass myself with the high school kids.

Also getting lots of work done during the day. It's a good trip.

I will let you know. So far I can say the surfaces are a bit cleaner and more consistent, the curves are tighter, and the roads are narrower.

Just found out Cruzman is headed up from GA.

Wish you had time to head south into GA to meet Cruz. Good stuff down there too.

Good times Patrick. Glad to hear it is sunny and warming up for you to enjoy the curves, especially after coming from afar. Sounds like this is icing on the cake for an already great trip. Slightly possible I may get up there tomorrow. Slightly. Let the good times roll!

We had a great run today. Foothills Parkway, 129, 28, 143 to Robbinsville for lunch at Lynn's. Back up 129 and over the Parkway again back home. It was good to see Cruzman again, and thanks to PJ for showing us around.

That is a nice loop.

If ya can try to get the Cherohala while you are there. Lot's of people claim it is better than the dragon. So you need to run it so you can relate to the debate.

Cruzman reported snow and salt on the Skyway above 4000' on his way out today. So I'll probably pass on it this time around.

It does sound like a great road though.

Well crap. Very rarely do I have to think about about snow on the good roads round here. Good news is you said this trip...which means you will be returning. ;-)

Nice ride today. https://goo.gl/maps/tQYok1aX7TN2

Here's pic from the top of the mountain on 441 south of Gatlinburg:

There was snow and ice and sand on the road up there, and temps were dropping into the 30's at the top. So I turned around and headed back down to where it was warm.

I have a bunch more video to go through but I got this quick one of a fun spot in the road on 441:

The Little River Gorge Road is a blast. 73 from Townsend to Gatlinburg area. Faster and more scenic than the Dragon.

Just a FYI... those roads are moving about 26 mph after June each year, you have nice sight lines and zero RV - tourista traffic there. Good timing in March duly noted. 441 looks fun when it's done fast !

You scared that old lady and 2 squirrels fell out of trees, I hope you're happy.

I only recollect two passes today that were slightly too close for comfort. Just slightly. I made it back into my lane well before the oncoming cars went by, but I'll give they were a touch close.

Nothing like that one guy we know that splits the middle of the road between passing cars. You know who you are.

And I only did a power wheelie past 3 cars one time. The wheel was only a couple of inches off the ground (thanks KTM) so I doubt they even noticed. But as you know that takes WOT and high rpm, so that's probably when the squirrels lost it and fell.

Only one idiot in my lane. Blind right hander with a rock wall to my right, almost to the apex when suddenly there's a 6 foot gap between the oncoming car and the wall. I suspect it scared the driver more than me.

Lots more video to follow.
