I know I have pictures of other winged things, but since birds are my thing, I'm gonna roll with it.

I like Sparrows. You rarely see them anymore where I live. They've been pushed out by Asian Mynahs which are an introduced pest. I really enjoy seeing sparrows when I visit other places.

One thing that always crosses my mind is "even pigeons get to fly."

Not all birds get to fly though. Here we have Scrub Turkeys, Emus and Cassowarys that can't fly. The last of those can do a good job of disembowelling you if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes, even the birds in Australia can kill you. :O

All of ours, even then ones that don't migrate, can at least fly short distances, even when they seem to prefer to run. The US doesn't have any native flightless birds on the continent.

I forgot Penguins. We have a lot of flightless penguins. I was on Phillip Island a couple of weeks before the Australian MotoGP and went to watch the nightly Little Penguin parade. Cuteness overload. It is a huge tourist attraction but they don't let you take photos. Camera flashes disorient the birds and can have fatal consequences.

Speaking of penguins. 6 of 7. Little Penguins (that is their official name) at the Canberra Zoo. And a factoid for any geeks who might be reading.

I'm so glad that Anna has a hummingbird named after her, T !!!

Banzai ... I'm happy that you're on board with sparrow-love, and I find your posts visually stimulating and informative.

It should be her spirit Anna-mal, very small, but fast and bold.

@jredford, are you up for picking the next theme?

 fz1azul, the theme wasn't birds, it was wings. A couple of people had statues, there was a moth and some planes. I was expecting more planes and bugs. Wing chairs, the West Wing, signs containing the word "wing" would all be acceptable.

Sometimes it helps that other people do that so it gives you ideas too. And at Hammer, well played. Thanks Jred! And yes, someday Australia would be great, I just have to live long enough to retire!
