I guess I stand corrected, I allowed my experience in Rome cloud my opinion of an entire country I guess. I just remember when I was there that it was rare to see a car that didn't have multiple dents and paint swaps.

translated from an Italian website - if true, hopefully it's a sign of good things to come

"19:03 THERE 'ACTIVITY' BRAIN
A small sign of hope comes from Cesena. There would, in fact, brain activity in response to pain by Hayden. The situation, however, remains desperate.

Traumatic brain injury. I don't see there being any real "good news" possible.

Absolute shite. Just another reminder cagers don't give a dam no matter what mode of transportation. Actually pretty sad about this, and I rarely care about the world's problems.

Jeez, this is sad. Yesterday glancing at motogp.com they mentioned a cycling accident, but not many details, figured Nicky was beat up some but not this. For some reason, as soon as I saw traumatic brain injury in this thread Michael Schumacher popped into my head. I pray to God that his injuries aren't as severe and he can make a meaningful recovery.

Oh, Rome!

In Rome it is unsafe to cross the street in a marked crosswalk, in the presence of a traffic cop, even if you are holding the hand of a nun.

And a priest.

I was talking about the countryside in Tuscany and Umbria.

Fingers crossed.

You might be surprised. Back in '98 I had a brain tumor removed. While in the hospital hanging out with the neurosurgeons, I learned of several people who had gunshots and other severe head trauma, that turned out ok. Don't get me wrong - even what I went through is a special kind of hell, but with time and re-learning, people can and do recover.

The brain can heal itself, and it can re-purpose healthy areas for tasks formerly handled by damaged areas. It depends heavily on the nature of the patient, and numerous other factors, none of which is really well known or understood.

The doctors are very clear from the outset. You can end up anywhere from dead to perfectly normal. Your personality may change. Your physical and mental abilities can diminish or improve, or just change.

While I hesitate to offer hope where there may be none (there are lots of accident survivors drooling on themselves in the hallways of nursing homes) there are chances that recovery can be made.

I am an optimist, so I hope for the best for Nicky.

Some reports that he has passed.

http://reports-tv.com/ex-motogp-cham...breaking-news/

And this describing the above as fake news.

http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/...ies-fake-news/

Note that Earl disputes updates from that site, as well as many "credible" sources that claimed (and posted here previously) he was put in a coma etc.

"Family announces in statement"

No announcement referenced. Nothing from Honda either.

Hoping this is bogus.

I sport his helmet while racing online in ride2.

What a sickening development. If this can happen to someone like Nicky, who seemingly possesses superhero powers on the world's baddest ass motorcycles at the highest levels of racing, it can happen to any one of us.

Praying for Nicky's recovery.

I like being an optimist. But I also know of others, such as Michael Schumacher. He's alive, but still "rehabilitating" at home (and will be the rest of is life). Much, much of a different life now.
