Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I took the day off (Murray found me out) so I wasn't online. It was a good lazy day.

Barb, I hope your recovery is quick and complete.

Jim, just WOW ! ! ! I had no idea. Take care of yourself, bud. You're the only you around.

I have no nifty military pictures (I could put a pic of the Mediterranean up I suppose, being a submariner), but I do have a deep respect for all who served and all who are serving. My hat's off to all of you.

Kind of a bummer that the bikes get put away on a beautiful ride-worthy day, isn't it, KT? I remember watching SCTV back in the day. Good stuff. Bob and Doug macKenzie et al.

Hammermon, glad to see you getting better. YOUDAMAN ! ! !

There's warming trend here, returning temps to their normal levels for mid-November now. It was breezy yesterday, though, and you could hear windchimes on my porch and next door on my neighbors' playing many tunes all evening.

Heal up at home and relax, Barb!

I hope everyone is well.. I've been fine, just not much of nothing to discuss..

Thanks guys, I'm out of there now, not "fixed" per se, but now taking a cocktail of eight new drugs to keep my heart working.

I went to the ER last Sunday after having intense shortness of breath for a week.

FWIW, I had quit smoking and drinking a month ago at my doctor's request due to a minor kidney problem that showed up in the lab results of my last annual check up.
For two weeks after quitting I felt progressively better - breathing, sense of smell, etc.
Then things took a turn for the worse. I attributed it to my COPD inhaler not working.
Each day for the last week, my breathing became more labored until I couldn't walk more than twenty feet
without having to stop to catch my breath.

So I was admitted to the ER, didn't have to wait at all.
They move the people with breathing issues to the front of the line.
Surprise, surprise. I was told I had "AFIB". Huh? What?
It is a form of congestive heart failure that was causing my breathing problems.
Lungs were working fine, my heart just could not pump blood correctly.
(AFIB = Atrial Fibrulation)

While in the ER, they tried to get some of the symptoms of my AFIB under control.
Fluid retention and high resting heart rate were addressed with drug infusions.
It wasn't working so I "got a room". I was moved to the ICU were they had nurses administer more powerful drugs to curb my condition.
These drugs can stop your heart, so that is why I was monitored 24/7 in the ICU.
Had a good time while there, my family visited, one of my daughters snuck in a Subway sandwich for me.
Got in a few bites before the nurse caught me, she almost blew a gasket.
Patients are not supposed to be eating in those places (they strive to starve you). He-he!

Day two 3:00pm - Time for my heart operation. Basically this was a catheterization procedure
where they stick a hose in your groin through the femoral artery, up into the heart.
Wow! What a trip. I was kept awake, though drugged so I could react in case things didnt go as planned or if I had to follow some kind of breathing or movement instructions.
I could feel the the flipping catheter hose fluttering around inside of my heart. Too cool!
They found one minor arterial blockage. They left it alone as it was too small to cause any problems.
So the results of my exploratory heart procedure were deemed negative which is a good thing.

To get my heart working right again the doctors selected a therapy of drugs to control
heart rythm, blood clotting, blood pressure, resting heart rate and fluid retention.
Since I was treated for a cerebral anuerysm twelve years ago,
the doctors decided to revisit the inside of my head to assure that things were still in good shape,
because some of these heart drugs can cause brain problems, namely bleeding.

Day 4 8:00am - So it was decided that I was going to have an intercranial angiographic procedure.
Basically similar to the prior heart procedure, the cath hose just travels up into the brain.
I was awake for this one too, but it wasn't a walk in the park.
The procedure lasted an hour, I did have to follow multiple breathing and movement instructions.
The last ten minutes were very painful. I thought that I was going to pass out from the xray energy impinging on the back of my neck (cerebellum).
Got back to my room, felt as if my head was run over by a truck.
I was given ice packs to deal with the headaches, an hour later things weren't so bad.
Everything checked out ok, results were negative, so I have been cleared for drug use.

Went home late yesterday, I now have a cocktail of ten drugs to take twice daily.
Downside is that I have to pee a lot and some of these drugs make me dizzy.
No other side effects at this time. My energy and breathing are back to normal.
Hope it stays that way. Yay!

Will be seeing my primary care doc next Monday, possibly to fine tune things.

Wow. That's quite a journey in not a long span of time! Glad to hear that you're on the road to recovery. Back to work in a week? Amazing.

To lighten things up a bit...

My friend and former roomie is racing this weekend. He decided this would be a good sign for his truck while driving there.
(The sign was originally secretly applied to another friend's truck after a track day.)

Woah, tubes being stuck everywhere .......... gives me the creeps just reading about it.
Back to work next week ! ...... that's crazy, man. After what you've been through, I'd demand a year-off with pay.
Keep on keepin' on .... that's all that we can do, Jim. I'm glad that they didn't find anything that needed choppin' !

This pic was in the ER at the beginning of my ordeal.
Many tubes and wires indeed. It did get a lot worse after that.
My arms must have been pierced around 200 times total during five days.
They were running out of veins to put it all in. (or take out)
At least I didnt have a tube shoved down my throat!
