Hey, I've met you! I resemble that remark by the way. I rarely forget to make coffee correctly, but I have an ice tea maker that I usually forget either the tea or the ice or the water or the sugar.

I think I'll use this instead of the Birthday Song for hand washing...

Some local opposition to SXSW in Austin this year. 3000 (current #)signed petition to stop it. I imagine there must have been a few bottles of Purell disinfectant next to the petition pens. Runs from 3/13-22

Hope GP doesn't get impacted.

Reminder to those with love ones in senior / assisted living. Don't panic, have a plan, figure out how to transfer medications, if you have to bring them home.

Spoke to the lead personal care giver (aide) last night at my mother in law's facility, she said as soon as the first case happens in the area she will resign. She wasn't willing to risk her health for minimum wage. I suspect she won't be the only one.

RI just had first case from returning Italy vacationer. He's was back since mid Feb before knowing.

From a local ER Doctor:

Coronavirus! I keep having this conversation over and over so I figured I’d put it up for discussion here. China is showing a case fatality rate of 2.3%. Its a simple formula where you divide the number of people who die from the disease by the number of people who test positive for the disease. My problem with this is you actually need to know how many people have the disease for these numbers to be useful. So, imagine you are you, but you live in China. You get a cold. What do you do? Go get tested? Risk quarantine in an overfilled and understaffed hospital? Probably not. Layer on top of this the fact that you live in a totalitarian communist regime that has killed between 20-45 million of its own people in the last century and just violently suppressed the last bunch of people who stood up for their rights a couple of months ago. Now how likely are you to go get tested? Maybe you keep your cold to yourself. Maybe you actively hide it unless you are too sick to keep it a secret anymore. Anyhow I think the China numbers have a denominator problem and the case fatality rate is way overestimated. I think coronavirus is likely to spread all over like the other strains of coronavirus we see all the time in the ED when people show up with their colds. I worry that people with bad lungs or other chronic problems are at risk for getting really sick, just like they do now from the various viral respiratory illnesses we see every year in the ED. I also worry that politicians and the news are fear-mongering for attention, clicks, views, anger, panic, and votes, and that worries me more than any of it. Wash your hands, cover your cough, get your flu shot, immunize your kids, and stay positive.

Oh great just what we need. Fighting against the fight of the virus. You would think a messiah would be better than that.

What's happening in South Korea?
On Sunday the Seoul City government filed a legal complaint to prosecutors against 12 leaders of the sect. They are accused of homicide, causing harm and violating the Infectious Disease and Control Act.

All 230,000 members of the church have been interviewed. Nearly 9,000 said they were showing symptoms of coronavirus.

A 61-year-old female member of the sect who tested positive for the virus was among the first to be infected.

She initially refused to be taken to a hospital to be tested and is known to have attended several church gatherings before testing positive.

The sect's leader, Lee Man-hee, claims he is the Messiah. He has also been tested for the virus and is awaiting the results.

Todd, I see our Sen. pulled the plug today. Not one of Biden's, her Campaign.

"I think I'll get me a Beer". Any large crowd should be avoided, which is why her handful of supporters have never been in any danger.

Looks like there's a confirmed case in Pawtucket and 40 being monitored. High School group that traveled to Italy. Been back since mid Feb.

There once was a man from Pawtuket
Who kept all his germs in a Bucket
This won't end to well, I'm here for to tell
So we might as well just say go .... it.

Just saw a mssg from my daughter's school (in NH) asking that any students who have been to Italy during school vacation stay home for the week.

This whole thing smacks of the SARS thing from years ago, IMO.

CPAC wasn't cancelled. Do germs have a political agenda?

Buttigieg pulled the plug, not Warren. She's still in it.

Yes.

Our company shut down any travel to facilities in Italy or China. Plus any other non-essential international travel.

Two cases of Coronavirus in Georgia this week.

This threat is good for some businesses at least. I deal with Costco and the orders have increased dramatically. They are running out of stock and in the Costco world this is a real no no. Costco is absolutely dedicated to make sure they have the product you want in stock and when that doesn't happen they are all over it. i think it is way to early to stock up on staples due to the virus but lots of people are doing it. Fear is a powerful motivator.
