He's still nervous, but at least is hiding in the living room now instead of the foyer. And he looooooves to be petted. Especially belly rubs of all things. He has giant paws too. So his desire to be petted is slowly overcoming his scared feeling of the big place. He was hiding behind the laundry room door when I got up, but then threw himself at me.

I'll likely get a cat when my babies move on.. Want the freedom to just go, but the comfort of a pet while here. Have been a cat person for the first 30 years or so of my life, love dogs now, but love flexibility more..

A new start...

for an old girl. This little princess will be joining our family soon. She is a 12 y/o rescue chihuahua that we just adopted. She currently weighs only 3 lbs, and that is up 1/2 lb since animal control agents brought her in. We're not real sure on her story, but we think she was taken from a home where she was not being properly cared for. She is an absolute sweetheart and is in real good spirits despite her situation. We won't be able to bring her home until Jan. 3rd. Her whopping $10 adoption fee will cover her spaying, rabies and microchip. Her teeth are not real good so she is on a soft food diet. We will get her into the vet and see what needs to be done.

According to Chesterfield County Animal Shelter rules, it's first come, first served on the adoptions. Jackie was in line from 7:30 AM until her legal adoption time of 4:06 PM. We then got a chance to actually hold her at that point and introduce her to Taco. Taco wasn't too interested at that moment being he is not used to noisy public environments, but he will get better acquainted with her when we can bring her home. Home where she will be much cared for and much loved for the rest of her days.

And her name, you may ask? What else. Are you ready for this? Meet...

Belle! (see what we did there?)

We finally got to bring Belle home!

So far she is doing well. She got spayed just the day before, so after some running around and getting to sniff out and meet the other members of the pack, she was ready to settle down and snuggle under the blankets. Her weight seems to have come up, but only to about 3.5 lbs or so. The story on her, to the best of my knowledge, is that she was a stray pick up by one of the animal control officers on about Dec. 2nd. She was actually running with a pit bull that was also picked up. It is evident she has had a her share of litters. I believe she was a bred for high dollar "toy" chihuahuas. I can't confirm it, but I also believe she was put out by her breeders as her usefulness as a breeder came to an end. I find it hard to believe any sane person who owned a dog like this would not have checked into the the shelters in and around the area they live to get their dog back. Hence the reason I believe she was put out.

But she walks well on a leash. She is not very timid as one would expect from a dog her size. She is full of curiosity and seems to be happy enough which is evident by her tail always wagging. Today, while snuggling with me on the couch, she got up, jumped down off the couch, and headed to the front door. So I put her harness on and took her out. She immediately started sniffing about and did her business. So she has been house trained.

She is getting along with the other dogs and cat just fine so far. Although she growled and nipped at the bigger dogs, she only did so while in someones lap, and that behavior is subsiding. The cat seems to be disappointed by her lack of interest in all things feline. LOL. But otherwise they are doing fine too.

I didn't get much sleep today, but still managed to make it to work, so I don't have many pics just yet. I will get a few more posted this weekend.

I never thought I'd be suck a sucker for little dogs, but even as Taco has become my little buddy, this little girl has completely stolen my heart.

Belle

Just a quick pic of Belle in her new sweater. And her little snaggletooth. She's like a cute little goblin.
