Thanks for the suggestion. The Smith and Wesson 617 is a fine handgun, but a little expensive for a .22 caliber. I have something similar -- the first handgun I ever bought back in 1974. Its a H&R 9-shot .22LR with a 6" barrel. Bought it at a hardware store believe it or not - think I paid about $75.00. Unfortunately, after 144 years H&R went out of business, so (though I've never needed any) replacement parts will be hard to come by.

The first 22 revolver I shot was a buddy's H&R, fine gun.

I really like that I can't tell without looking if I picked up a 617 or a 686, so it's worth it to me for the economy of ammunition while still getting the same muscle memory shooting the 617. S&W put no less material or work into the 22 so I can justify the expense, but it's totally a ymmv situation.
