OK, so I didn't do any of this myself, but here goes, anyway. Had the valve clearances checked, found out that cylinder 1 intake valves were way off, had new shims put in. Also had the AK-20's refreshed with new bushings and fresh fluids.

Gave the bike it's first wash all summer, then did the TPS adjustment thanks to Ivan's write up. Also went from Whittlebeast to JD's map.

Oh hey did I say a couple of days ago I "washed" my Gen I for the first time in probably a couple of years?

I rode it to North Georgia today, for a "end of summer" ride-in party.

Added a tinted windscreen and installed a fresh set of Renthal grips. I always loved them on my motocross bikes so figured I would give them a try.

Nope. I worded my post that way so everyone else could share in the initial confusion of why in the hell does Yamaha call the shift shaft cover gasket a carburetor gasket. See item #25 below.

Nice move!

PS, had a leak from the same gasket on my old FZ6. Took the cover off, cleaned both surfaces, reinstalled with a torque wrench. Never leaked again. Out of curiosity, looked it up, Yamaha calls it a carburetor gasket on that bike as well.

Trust me, Yamaha is prone to mistakes like anyone.

Yep. If you look in the manual for down shift points you'll see a nice error. Check out page 6-3:
6th -> 5th: 25 km/h
5th -> 4th: 25 km/h
4th -> 3rd: 25 km/h
3rd -> 2nd: 25 km/h
2nd -> 1st: 25 km/h

Really?

I was trying to head out this morning for a long ride when the bike started missing like crazy from idle to 5k rims. Thought it was from resetting the TPS and flashing a new map the other day when I remembered that the plug coils like to crappy out after 30k miles. So a quick turn to get back home and replaced all 4 coils in 30 minutes.

just a few goodies installed by loosenut-thanks Mike

Graves pipe, BMC, air box mod, sv handlebar lowering bar mounts, superlite 16t C/S - 45t rear w/driven nuts, gold chain, sargent seats, pcv, Ivans flash, speedo healer, nice set of race take offs...I always use them. Those old BT016 had to go. The bike is so much better, but I think the wheels are out of balance and the throttle is hanging up a little. It's an easy fix though. Mines Rd here I come. Thanks again Mike.

Once you get started it's hard to stop.

Coming next...08" R1 front end with ak-20's, new brembo rotors or equivalent, quick shifter, handlebars, graves stacks & engine case savers & maybe some lighter wheels...then I'll sell it for $8000.00...NOT. I'll transfer it all over to a clean 2015 in (3) years and sell my stock bike for a quick 4k-4.5k. Love these FZ's...happy modding everyone.

I know...the rear peg mounts need to be anodized or dipped. This will be done very soon. I usually just remove them from the bike if I can and put them back on when the wife comes for a ride. With this graves exhaust I can take both sides completely off for a nice clean look.

Yep, mine stay off unless kids or wife want to ride.....which is rare. 2 minutes to put them on and a lot cheaper than anodizing, plus you save the weight and it looks better (to me).

AFM: did you paint or powder the wheels? I have the Gray metallic too, mine has the ugly Gray Poopton mustard colored wheels. Yours is awesome.

Today was epic.

16 tooth front sprocket
Lars and bmc
ais delete
tps reset, didnt really need to alter it, more like checked
Cat yank.
Took Rachel out for a quick spin. What a difference. Throttle is much quicker, no more blah blah blah on decel from the MIVV. The suggested 16 tooth is a revelation. Much better gearing. Overall I am very happy.
Next up: Ivan olicious...........
