When I first moved over to Win 64 MSE was one of the only solutions available and like Desmo stated... It's pretty much invisible until you need it.

I use a WD Passport 1TB external with USB3.0 capability as my external backup for everything important. It has my latest file backups, latest system images and my pics, movies and music files. It cost about $100. |

That said, DUMP IE ... well not dump, keep it installed and updated, but use something else for your day to day web browsing. Think about this... your a hacker and your looking for a exploit you can build on a web page, and then spam millions of email address with a link to the web page and hope that some fool clicks on your "Enlarge you penis 50% in 3 days" link. What web browser would you target? IE good or bad... that's not the question. Hell, run Safari for windows and I grantee that no phishing site with some zero day Flash Player exploit is going to know what to do with your system configuration. I like Googles Chrome, it's light weight and fast and it auto updates.

I did get an external HardDrive with 2TB external with USB3.0 capability from Wallyworld for 109. I'm not sure of the name, it's @ home & I'm at work. WD does sound familiar though. |

I guess it's like anything--that initial PLUNGE that worries me. My desktop computer has multiple logins (for me & g/f) I am the admin. If I use Google Chrome does that change hers too? I actually worry more when she's on there. You know how women are, havta click on every home remedy/deal/cure out there...... errrr Thanks G |

Switched to MSE and deleted AVG Free. System seems to be running a bit faster, and with fewer hang ups. My imagination, or could I actually have a performance gain? My PC is ancient, so just about anything would help I guess.

If you mean MSE, it's a lot less bloated than other security suites..

Yep I had Mcafee (HOG) on my desktop computer which is old & slow and made surfing a very painful experience. Had AVG on my laptop (what started this post). Removed them both and installed MSE on BOTH and they are both operating great EVEN VIDEOS! Also removed IE and installed Google Chrome on the desktop and while a little different it works much better from what I can tell so far. The MAJOR difference being the TOOLBAR. I don’t see a FAVORITES on there. I did import them from IE so I have a FOLDER from IE that has my favorites in it. Now just need to install my wireless router. Then Google Chrome on the laptop. Thanks guys! G |

Ok I had the toolbar, but it seems like it stacks them up horizontally. That would take up a lot of room, can't be right.
Where IE had a FAVORITES tab with a pull down. |
