The knee armor is a bit thick, like you'd want for protection, but it is noticeable you're wearing them under your pants.

Fwiw I don't own a set but they also carry the Forcefield Pro Pants which look like they offer a ton of protection.
Noticeable I don't mind,,,, do you have to fix the pants Every time on and off the bike... In other words do the pants drop down naturally as if you had no padding when you are off the bike or do they hang up on the knee pads, that you have to pull down on them to avoid the high water look

No problem with the high water look. The outside material is quite smooth.

I spent more time standing in them than I have before while BS'ing with friends I stopped to see today. They are very comfortable while you've got your knee bent but if you spend a lot of time standing with your leg straight the lower part of the pad presses into your shin and gets annoying after a while.

how come the racers are not wearing this stuff if its so good?
Don't know about 20xbetter than leather, but I believe the MotoPort stuff is the only textile gear approved for AMA racing. I should have mentioned MotoPort in my earlier post about cordura.

Asking what type of gear to buy is like asking people what type of car to buy so understand you are going to get a ton of opinions and people insisting they know all.

Take your time and do your research.

I will offer what I have personally experienced. I started out like you not knowing a dang thing about gear. I knew a guy who insisted that the only way was to go is all-in and make the investment in known top brands. Arai or Shoei helmet, Sidi/Alpinestar boots, Held gloves, Aerostitch/Olympia/Alpinestars/Dainese jacket & pants.

I looked at the collective price tag of buying those brands and thought he was out of his mind. There had to be a a good middle of the road option so I bought Tourmaster/Cortech/Fieldsheer type line. It got me out of the gate but a year of two later after i had to chance to see what was out there and what I felt would do the best job of protecting me I found myself buying all those brands my friend told me to buy in the first place.

And maybe that is typical for new riders. And we all have different budgets.

My opinion is buy the best brands you can within your budget and its worth it to stretch your budget. Its an investment in your safety. And get something that is multi seasonal or able to deal with heat (venting) or you won't wear it and that obviously does no good at all.

What I wear that doesn't make me look like a MotoGP guy but gives me great protection and at a reasonable cost are;

TourMaster Caliber pants, ballistic plastic knee protection inserts with three postitions depending upon your size. Also hip & thigh padding. High strength textile.

TourMaster Air Intake II jacket, I live in SW ARIDzona, so the texfile mesh lets me wear it to and from work w/o working up a sweat. Included are a back protector, and ballistic elbow & shoulder protectors. Also, the jacket & pants will zip together at the back, a big plus in cold weather or in the case of a spill...

I like Shoei because it fits me. Also, do you have a $150 head or a $350 head...your choice.

Alpinestar boots, as they fit even my extra-wide stompers. Comfy, and they are the basic no-frills black leather type.

I have Rocket gloves, I think they use small Filipino boys for their sizing, so go larger.

The reason you do not see Motoport stuff out there is because Motoport is a very small family business out of northen San Diego. They have one little shop and Wayne does not advertise. It was only until a couple of years ago they even had a decent web site. You just had to know him through word of mouth. I have been to his shop. Let me tell you the claims are all true. This stuff is the real deal and blows away leather. Check out his site thoughly, and better yet, giive him a call. He is very personal and willing to talk to people about his products.
As afar as racers not using it, they just do not know about it. Plus it is expensive, as much as a custum suit. I have Joe Rocket leathers that cost me $500. My full Kevlar mesh 2 suit cost upwards of $1300. I have not worn my leathers since.
They are cooler, lighter, offer more protection and armor, and it was custom fitted and designed by Wayne personally to my specifications.
Leather rotts, gets hot, stinky, non washable, (like throw it a washer washible), and it not really easy to alter with wieght gain or loss. Dont have to worry about that with Motoport. He has the best guarantee in the business.
Give Wayne a call and you will be convinced. Anything else you hear here besides me, (I am a customer and have met Wayne several times), would be just speculation.
