I've been told that the modular helments have more wind noise compared to the regular full face helments. Do you notice much of a difference?

My Multitec is *much* quieter than the Icon and Arai non-modular helmets that I own.

I was at CycleGear today and tried on a Bilt (!!) modular with a drop-down sun visor - it didn't come anywhere close to providing enough coverage! Not sure I'd buy a Bilt helmet, but that rules them out..

The king of venting for a long time was the Shoei X-11. They replaced it with the X-twelve. I know the X-11 moved a ton of air.

Airframe review

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motor...icon-airframe/

Gives a good review of the airframe. I believe the Domain 2 is the next level up. They do seem to be a lot of great deals on Icon helmets right now. I am tempted to get an Airframe because of the really good venting.

Thanks for the suggestion! They're no doubt pricier than my Scorpion, but I'll take a look at them.

New modular from Shoei - Neotec.
Perhaps Shoei looked at the C3?

Racers are sponsored by certain brands .That means they use their equipment.
General public trys to mimic racers .

So more on the Neotec:
- includes pinlock insert
- three shell sizes
- sun shield reputed to drop down out of view (my complaint with every other one I've tried)
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/shoei/neotec/
http://www.shoei-helmets.com/neotec.aspx
Hoping local CG's start carrying them soon, but my Multitec continues to serve me well..

I just cant get over the unknown safety factor with modular helmets. I couldn't wear one. I would love for someone to do some real testing with those. If someone has please post the link.

I recall SNELL saying that no mfg has ever submitted one for testing. This was several years ago. Dunno if it's changed.

Someone posted a link to an institution that had tested them and my Multitec held up well. I've never heard of any failures, but when I search, I do find some with the cheaper brands..

(edit: post incomplete)
When I see a rash of posts about injuries due to modular failures, particularly Shoei, perhaps I'll reconsider. It was good enough for the UK police force, as was the model previous, and the Multitec has been around for 5 years before 'updating' the design. I don't see much need to be concerned. Kind of like plugging your tires. There are those that never will because they're certain everyone who does crashes and burns. Got a several hundred miles on a plug on my Gen I rear now, and it's holding pressure just fine..

I had a plug in for 2300 miles, worked just fine and checked the pressure weekly... I lost 2 PSI with regular commuting 40 miles a day.

Do yourself a favor and go to your dealer. try on what he has buy one that fits, chances are your local shop is a few bucks more. It really sucks when you spend 400 bucks online and you go to pull it on and it don't fit! Same brands have different models that are vastly different in fit.

I didn't have time to dig deep but did come across this interesting article which seems to speak well for modular safety. (at least under their testing conditions) http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/acc...n/viewall.html
