High Vibrations

So I bought an FZ1 GEN 1, a while ago, and I LOVE this bike. I have put ivans jet kit on, and have a micron gp slip-on. However my bike vibrates a HUGE amount. So much so that when I ride without gloves my hands feel a little desensitized after 45 minutes. I have balanced the carbs, and maintained her well. Is this normal? or is something wrong? Thanks fellas

Not normal. The Gen1 I rode was smooth across the entire rev range.

Un-evenly worn tires? I recently put on a new front and it made a huge difference.

Good luck.

I had a vibration in the bars, after I added the exhaust system. Turned out I was too rich where the vibe was. A rejet (one size smaller main jet) cured the issue.

TPS setting can affect engine vibration. Did you set it per Ivan's instructions?

1) Why are you ever riding w/o gloves? Take it from me, picking sand out of the heel of your hand and your knuckles 3-4 years after a crash is a real pita!

2) Changing the pipe probably changed the jetting

3) Make sure all your engine mount bolts are tight

4) You might consider adding some weight to the handlebars or filling the handlebars with RTV as either will change the resonant frequency of the handlebars and thus change when they vibrate and how much.

I was waiting for someone to jump on the "no gloves" statement.

Yeah I know i need the gloves, when I do wear them it does obviously feel better. I checked the TPS, and the carb sync is done as well. It may be my tire, but the vibrations are so fine, I doubt it would come from the front tire, also I need one anyways.

Slim Johnsen, what smaller main jet did you use?

I went from 145's to 140's. Tuning for a base elevation of ~4k'. I am also running RavenRiders needles, 17.5 pilots, and pods.

If you want to rejet your bike, there are several threads, and options on the forum, on the subject. ( I read you have Ivan's kit..)

I have not used Ivan's kit, however, he is a member here, and he is always willing to help out with his kits. Could be worth a phone call to him.
