removing and replacing rear shock

Hello,
I am about to upgrade my rear suspension and need some info regarding removal and installation. If the bike is on the centerstand what is the proper way to support the frame once the shock is removed from the swing arms? I do not have a garage, therefore a hoist is not an option. Can a jack stand do the work?

The bike is nose heavy on the centerstand. As long as the front wheel is on you won't need to support the frame.

To do the rear shock, all you need is a 2X4 to put under the rear tire. That's just to hold it up a bit. You'll still need to lever it up a bit to hold it while you pull the top bolt out. And, then, again, you'll need to lever it up a bit to reattach.
