Our new house and shop!

The plan for the last few years has been to move to East TN in 2012 after my girls finish school (they can come visit me then).

Well, after our search for land to build a shop on, we had one of the locals send us a link to a house with a shop. We really didn't think we would find a house and a shop to suit us in our pricerange, and thought we'd need to build what we needed.

When we went to look, we expected that the house would have issues, as it's over 70 years old.. What we found is a nice old house that needs remodeling.. VERY solid construction, and a good layout. 3 bedroom, 2 bath, dry basement, and a 1700 sq ft split plan that would be useful and livable for us.

We also found an AMAZING shop. I don't know why it was built the way it is, but here's some shop info: The shop is a well built concrete block building, 2 levels with a split level that's a 2-car garage. 20X24 Garage off of the driveway, (we would probably use this as our shipping area), over 1000 square feet of warehouse and office space. ( we currently have our office in the house and have 720 square feet of shop we use for warehouse, shipping AND to park our bikes), and 1000 square feet of lower lever for our bikes, the 40 ford, and mancave...

And this is about 20 miles from being on Deals Gap, on 3 acres in an established neighborhood outside the city limits with no deed restrictions, and easy access to everything we would need.

I didn't want to make an offer and then find issues, so we paid for a home inspector to do a complete inspection before we considered it further. The inspection found the same minor issues we did, and declared the house and shop solid.

We went back for a second look yesterday, found it even more appropriate than when we looked it over the first time, and made an offer, which was accepted... So we're on our way to owning the place we've been wanting/needing.

We still have to get through the process of getting to closing, but if all goes well, we're 45 days from owning it! Then we can start the work of getting it up to speed for us.

There are some pics here that give you an idea of what it's like....

Congrats to you and Paige.

Looks like a great place.

I've been looking for over a year. I hope I have some of the luck that you've captured.

We would have never thought of trying to find the house and shop we needed, as we could never have found it.. but this was spotted for us.

The problem that I'm having is that I don't want my youngest daughter to have to change elementary schools. That is seriously restricting my options.

Nice find, sounds like it suits you perfectly. House is not that bad, lived in worse and it can be updated if it's solid. Congrats you two.

Congrats, like Dave, we've been looking a long time, too. That looks like a good fit, and as long as the bones are solid, fixxer-uppers let you make them yours.

Just great PJ & Paige. First we had to hate Todd & Celeste, now you two? Give us a break...

Seriously, congrats. That looks absolutely perfect.

wow... congrats on the place. Seems like there's plenty of room to expand if you so choose to. Interesting idea to have a home inspection before putting in an offer... but it looks like it worked out for ya.

I just closed on my house yesterday... it's definately a good feeling.
